no idea what's even going on here, i attached the error messages it gave me. This isn't the first time it's done this, last time I just ended up reinstalling the game.

could be broken vanilla dialog files or something

lone hamlet
icy ridge
#

no

lone hamlet
#

ok good

icy ridge
#

verifying game files is the part that removes everest

lone hamlet
#

k

#

lets see if this works lol

#

seems to be working so far

#

laptop sounds like its about to take off, as per usual

#

nope

#

didnt work

icy ridge
#

how much ram and vram do you have

lone hamlet
lone hamlet
#

an extra 32 in shared memory tho

icy ridge
#

do you have any mods enabled

lone hamlet
#

that shouldn't be an issue, i run celeste on a literal chromebook sometimes

lone hamlet
icy ridge
#

try with all mods disabled

lone hamlet
#

uh

#

idk if i can

icy ridge
#

and update everest

lone hamlet
#

i updated it

icy ridge
lone hamlet
icy ridge
#

everest stable is 6064

#

this is olympus 😭

#

click the gear

lone hamlet
#

right

#

hold on

icy ridge
#

in the main menu of olympus

lone hamlet
#

on 6064

lone hamlet
icy ridge
#

hypothesis 2: it's a broken mod, are you making a map or using one that's in development

lone hamlet
#

nope

#

prob a broken mod

icy ridge
lone hamlet
#

and oh yea that error is outdated

lone hamlet
icy ridge
#

manage installed mods

#

disable all

lone hamlet
#

i can launch reg celeste (not everest) and it does the same thing

icy ridge
lone hamlet
#

or at least it did

#

that error seems to be old

#

hold on

#

gonna try that again

#

oh look olympus just.. closed

#

huh

#

plain old celeste brings this

icy ridge
#

mmm

lone hamlet
#

no olympus, no everest

icy ridge
#

are you on windows

lone hamlet
#

yep

icy ridge
#

and steam?

lone hamlet
#

and also steam

icy ridge
#

steam cloud is enabled by default so you can delete the celeste folder and reinstall though you can make a copy of the Saves folder to make a backup

icy ridge
lone hamlet
#

it took a solid month to show back up

#

or maybe more

#

but it did

#

same error

#

so deleting via steam should keep installed mods?

#

if they're backed up via steam, which i think they are

icy ridge
#

theyre not

#

copy them if you want them

#

mod files can be huge and your cloud is only a few mb

#

copy the Mods folder over somewhere

icy ridge
lone hamlet
#

my celeste folder is just under 5gb

#

the entire folder in steam that is

#

lets see, which folders to copy?

#

saves, mods?

#

or just the folder labeled mods

icy ridge
icy ridge
#

can delete the unused mods folder later if you don't want to waste space

#

or even cut and paste it to the new celeste install...

lone hamlet
#

reinstalling....

#

lets see how cursed it gets this time

icy ridge
#

hopefully you dont have 100 kbps wifi

lone hamlet
#

nah, its not that bad

#

just 102kbps

icy ridge
#

102 kbps in bytes happylandeline vs 102 kbps in bits oshiregret

lone hamlet
#

the slower one /s

#

actually its about 50mbps

#

and done

icy ridge
#

probably in bits if people want good advertisements

lone hamlet
#

oh cool it just immediately said no

#

lemme go delete some stuff....

icy ridge
#

what are you deleting

#

can you upload the error message text here

#

typing out an image sucks

lone hamlet
#

it kinda doesnt exist now

#

i just deleted the entire celeste folder from steam files

#

what i did last time iirc

#

downloading it again

#

at 86Mbps now

icy ridge
#

cutting and pasting does the same thing

#

hopefully

lone hamlet
#

i copied it first, dw

icy ridge
#

indicating your base celeste is broken

lone hamlet
#

yep

#

i already reverified files

#

idk how it broke tho

#

i didnt mess with base stuff (this time)

lone hamlet
#

yea

#

i cant

#

the error message no longer exists

#

because that file no longer exists

icy ridge
#

didnt you backup your celeste folder

lone hamlet
#

yea

#

lemme go find it

#

also it works now

icy ridge
#

cool..?

lone hamlet
#

idk where that file is

#

prob made between backup and deletion

#

this is the most recent error i have

icy ridge
#

oh yeah

#

make sure it works with everest and mods

lone hamlet
#

gonna do that now

#

everest launches

#

time to test mods ig

#

so now it works

#

i think

icy ridge
lone hamlet
#

yep it works

#

played a quick round of 2b (my fav ngl)

#

working fine i think

#

thank you :3

lone hamlet
#

hey @icy ridge i think i figured out the issue

#

i use notepad a lot, and for some reason it was creating my files in celeste’s dialog folder

#

i moved them all out, it works now

icy ridge
#

thought you still had it on a clean install

#

idk dont remember all this thread

lone hamlet
#

(due to me using notepad)
