That's strange because someone with Fedora Linux has reported the same bug on their machine.

#

can you do ls -a ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Celeste in your terminal?

#

and you're sure no Mod Options appear in the Celeste menu?

#

Also, tell us what version of Everest you're installing.

oblique wolf
#

and im pretty sure its version 5986

#

the stable one

#

and there are definately no mod options in the celest menu

🤔

#

Try launching Everest from Olympus, and send log.txt

#

Then try launching Celeste from Steam, and send the new log.txt

There are two types of logs; crash logs and log.txt.

Crash logs are generated when you see an "Oooops! :(" crash handler screen. They contain extra information which regular logs don't.
To access those, there's a button that says Open log file folder, which should take you to where they're stored. Make sure to grab the latest one!

For more subtle issues, non-crashing problems or other miscellaneous stuff, log.txt is checked. To find it, do the following:

  • Open Olympus.
  • Press the Manage button in the Installations panel on Olympus' main menu. (it's to the left)
  • Press Browse to open the Celeste folder.
  • Look for the file named exactly log.txt inside that folder. Do not grab error_log.txt or look into the LogHistory folder as those are not the log.txt you're looking for.

Your username may sometimes show up in those logs. If you're concerned about that, remember to censor it before uploading. Every text editor should have a replace function, commonly opened with Ctrl+H.

it smells like steam is verifying your game files before running which we don't want

Ok this is from a few days ago when my fedora install died after an update

#

This is probably just from when it was working

oblique wolf
#

Doing anything with steam ect broke it

oblique wolf
#

I run arch on my main pc and updating to the 17.4 kernal on that broke it

Like just stalling at the sddm

#

Where would that be? Sorry I don't have access to the pc this is happening on :(

#

Try to install Everest again, then start Everest from Olympus

oblique wolf
#

Ok

acoustic glacier
#

Oh, and then ls -a the Celeste folder

oblique wolf
#

Which is from the fedora

#

Because I just copied the entire home folder over

oblique tendon
#

did you move your install at some point or something

oblique wolf
#

Like celest

#

The entire home folder from fedora was moved Into mint

#

But that was pre install

#

Of steam

oblique tendon
#

if you go to steam and browse installed files, where are you taken

oblique wolf
#

Just .local/share/steam/steam apps/celest probably

#

I'll check

oblique tendon
#

please check

oblique wolf
#

Ok nope it takes her to

#

/home/maddiehd/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Celeste

#

Never seen that before

#

I'm killing her

oblique tendon
oblique wolf
#

Ok that will probably fix it

oblique wolf
#

Oh yeag .steam

oblique tendon
#

are the contents identical

#

i'd double check what process is started

oblique wolf
#

I'm so sorry it works now

#

I should have found this

#

There was 2 installs

#

Thanks 👍

oblique tendon
#

yep there you go

#

transferring an entire steam installation like that is suspicious

oblique wolf
#

Yepp

#

I do it from arch to arch alot

#

But never from rhel to debain
