need some help with stutters/frameskips

happens about every 2-3 minutes I get a frameskip like this which makes basically any hard levels impossible (also most golden berries are practically impossible due to dying from the frameskip)

GPU: nvidia 3080
CPU: AMD ryzen 9 5900X

vsync is off and im running opengl beta branch on steam and the stutters happen on both modded (everest) and basegame

#

oh and ive also validated files through steam

#

should also mention ive tried running the game on no beta branch just the stable release version but it also has the exact same amount of stutters as far as I can tell

#

this is likely not celeste or everest's fault

#

i'd check if your graphics drivers are up to date

#

and also check your specs

#

cpu usage, memory usage, the usual

hollow kindle
#

any recommendations on what software to use to check cpu usage simultaneously while playing?

stark hollow
#

..task manager

hollow kindle
#

task manager is notoriously really bad at that tho

#

like its just generally wrong

stark hollow
#

i havent had that be the case

hollow kindle
#

ill give it a shot anyway

#

down to try anything at this point bigsadeline

stark hollow
#

you can make task manager always be on top in settings

#

but ofc windows loves to make ui changes everywhere so it depends if you have win10 or 11

hollow kindle
#

I have 2 monitors so I can just have it on 2nd monitor

stark hollow
#

fair

hollow kindle
#

updating drivers first anyway but I havent really ever had an issue thats been resolved by driver update

#

I do update drivers fairly often though

stark hollow
#

how do you update drivers? because windows driver updates only update your time wasted on using windows driver updates

hollow kindle
#

I always update drivers through nvidia software

stark hollow
#

good

stark hollow
#

and we know of one issue in olympus on AMD igpus

#

which is solved by updating drivers

hollow kindle
#

also I was wondering if the stutters could be caused by my game running at 61 fps for some reason

#

not sure if thats a steam display bug or not but afaik celeste is supposed to be capped at 60 fps

stark hollow
#

no, that's just an XNA quirk

hollow kindle
#

ah okay

stark hollow
#

switching to FNA fixes the quirk

#

some people got used to that XNA quirk though snip_plush

#

i don't know much about it other than that but i know popax had to deal with it

hollow kindle
stark hollow
#

yeah

#

it does make celeste play at 61fps

hollow kindle
#

damn thats kind of crazy lol

#

never knew that

stark hollow
#

-# the things you find out after staring at the game's code for hours on end lol

#

and doing extensive testing

hollow kindle
#

based on my cpu graphs it looks like core 5 might be peaking when the stutters happen or basically the stutters might happen cause the fifth core peaks

stark hollow
#

id be curious to see what a profiler would say to that

#

because i feel like it's something GC related

hollow kindle
#

god im about to go on such a rant hahaha

#

I have had so many games where im 99% sure its GC related issues

#

infamous minecraft java GC being horrible but also in osu for example

#

I would not be surprised at all if it was a GC related issue in celeste too

stark hollow
#

snip_plush something's up with your pc i guess

hollow kindle
#

yup

stark hollow
#

stutters and stuff usually scream GC
