#I tap the down button and phase into the ground... What mod is causing this?

try this
A mod bisect is a way to find a misbehaving mod without having to check them one by one.
Here are steps on how to do it:
- Disable half of your enabled mods.
- Check to see if the issue persists.
- If it does:
- The mod that is causing the issue is still enabled. Disable half of your enabled mods.
- If it doesn't:
- The problematic mod has just been disabled. Enable the mods you just disabled, and disable the ones you had enabled.
- Repeat step 2 until you narrow your search to 1 mod.
i suspect leavethecastle might be doing something
This is that one tricky issue that started happening a few months ago. We don't know what causes it since no one has been able to reproduce it consistently and it seems to go away after restarting the game.
#modding_general message
how do u disable mods, just in olympus?
can you send your log.txt
wrong reply
but eh
There are two types of logs; crash logs and log.txt.
Crash logs are generated when you see an "Oooops! :(" crash handler screen. They contain extra information which regular logs don't.
To access those, there's a button that says Open log file folder, which should take you to where they're stored. Make sure to grab the latest one!
For more subtle issues, non-crashing problems or other miscellaneous stuff, log.txt is checked. To find it, do the following:
- Open Olympus.
- Press the Manage button in the Installations panel on Olympus' main menu. (it's to the left)
- Press Browse to open the Celeste folder.
- Look for the file named exactly
log.txtinside that folder. Do not graberror_log.txtor look into theLogHistoryfolder as those are not thelog.txtyou're looking for.
Your username may sometimes show up in those logs. If you're concerned about that, remember to censor it before uploading. Every text editor should have a replace function, commonly opened with Ctrl+H.
oh huh
That's good
then yeah narrow down the mods
no
If you are willing to spend some time could you try going through this list of mods and disable the ones you have installed one by one?

i didn't even disable anything
but yea this happened before where it randomly stopped
also @glacial berry please remove this writeline https://github.com/CommunalHelper/CommunalHelper/blob/dev/src/Entities/Chains/ChainedKevin.cs#L134
this should have been a logger.verbose or logger.debug instead
Do you alt tab out of the celeste window often?
Yea
That has been the only causing factor I've come across. But it seems unlikely.
Since one other person said that caused it.
Have you ever played Feather Map when it randomly happened
what if you press tab twice or alt twice
feather map?
or if you hold alt for a long while
Iirc they said they tabbed out and back in while respawning and then the issue started.
okay i know whats happening then
some times the "key released" event doesn't reach celeste
making it think the alt key is held
most commonly happens when alt+tabbing
theres already reports of the game ""closing" because of them pressing their [insert action] bind
only to find out the bind is f4 and alt was stuck on from alt tabbing
hilarious
anyways
no clue because it could be hardcoded
you can now narrow it down now that we know how to reproduce it
I'm thinking of alt+tabbing is helpful for placement games
You should also be able to phase into walls the same way. Test that out.
bisect from the list of mods kuksa sent
Yea that works
what list of mods
99% sure it's viddie's toolbox
-# and by 99% i mean 0% because it's a theory i made up on the spot from the feels
yes
That's what I'd think too except it is not in the list.
i just went back in time and put it there wym
lmao
anyways damn
maybe srt/celestetas ig
or tashelper
no clue
Well at least now that we know it's caused by the key we could just do static analysis of each mod.
Imagine if this lead to hot mess skip for speedruns lol
I remember that a certain helper has a jumpthru that you can pass it by held down
That's not really relevant. Especially since the clipping happens in all directions.
ok so its not memorialHelper, NerdHelper, OutbackHelper, PandorasBox, PrismaticHelper, Sardine7, ShroomHelper, SorbetHelper, StyleMaskHelper, VivHelper, VortexHelper, XaphanHelper
rip all of my maps that depend on these
back to disabling
its not EeveeHelper, ExtendedVariantMode, FactoryHelper, FancyTileEntities, FemtoHelper, FlaglinesAndSuch, FrostHelper, GravityHelper, HonlyHelper, IsaGrabBag, JackalHelper, JungleHelper, LuaCutscenes, LunaticHelper, MaxHelpingHand, memorialHelper, NerdHelper, OutbackHelper, PandorasBox, PrismaticHelper, Sardine7, ShroomHelper, SorbetHelper, StyleMaskHelper, VivHelper, VortexHelper, XaphanHelper
damn i shouldve started from thet op
so its either AdventureHelper, Anonhelper, AurorasHelper, Batteries, BounceHelper, BrokemiaHelper, CanyonHelper
yea its definitely vanilla fr
AdventureHelper, Anonhelper, AurorasHelper
i bet its auroras
??????

uhh
so how it does or not with some mod
send log.txt because i don't really believe that
The exclusive Celeste v1.5.0.0 got dropped to random people
yeah you definitely dont have everything disabled
everything in the list i mean
Assuming it is a mod outside the list
disable absolutely everything then
Well that's cool.
one at a time?
no, disable absolutely everything
alr
later you can go through the mods you had enabled
well disabling everything fixed it
So somebody sent me their log.txt after disabling some mods and relauching the game even when I told them not to
-# some mods will disable themselves when next gaming
It's luckyhelper.
Nearly missed that since It's using the arrow keys for the movement and not the player movement keys, Thankfully one of my movement keys overlasp with up arrow
can confirm

debug and makes bug
so they were so close to making this a reasonable feature, tying it to a setting
except they made that setting default to true and then also not exist in the settings menu
that's so poggers
mhm. I will now do the honorary underdragon ping unless the creator is on this server.
@clever kindle Hello! Your helper mod has the debug features set enabled by default and this has been causing random people to get clipped into walls for the past few months. All you need to do is set it to false by default.
i'm not sure changing the default is enough actually since it won't change the setting for anyone who has the mod installed already
Oh I though the SettingIgnore prevented saving. Seems it doesn't.
Lucky hasn't sent any messages in this server so I'll ping @paper forge anyway.
-# (
you're the best for dealing these issues, thanks)
we already have MappingUtils to freely go through the wall and ground
yea
One of the first instances of this issue was discovered on cnet
yeah only yamlignore does that
bruh i'm an idiot
it wasn't meant to stay there
done
yeah thats why im saying it should've been a logger.verbose or logger.debug
so that it staying there is actually fine
thank you, appreciate it
also still happy birthday
writelines bother me because it's very hard to trace what is doing them
also thank you
makes sense, thanks for letting me know!
I see
I'll notify them
sorry for so stupid bugs 😭
The most important thing is that you are here and able to fix it
happy birthday
