I just started using Everest, and very strangely, when playing through Everest, the game seems to not be registering up on my joystick except when I'm dashing. So it doesn't work to climb, to make madeleine look up, or to crouch in mods where the gravity is flipped. Also, it seems to usually work in vanilla celeste but sometimes it stops working. It does however work fine with the d-pad. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
#Up not working on joystick, except when dashing

i think you may have somehow unbound up from movement keys
check settings
I did check assuming I didn't miss it somehow
the other evidence against that is 1. in vanilla celeste it usually starts off working, and then stops until I restart the game and 2. dashing works fine
there's a separation between movem- wait no youd have to bind those yourself
i think it could just be your joystick
but then why the inconsistencies above
like why has dashing always worked
I also found this reddit post with seemingly the same problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/celestegame/comments/qkmk0n/up_input_not_working/ but idrk how to follow their solution
ah steam input
try fiddling with that
right click celeste, properties, controller, and try editing that
oh wait yes I thinkkk tentatively I figured it out. I just re-enabled steam controller support. I feel silly for not having understood that
admittedly last time I did that it broke everything
basically fna (the engine celeste uses) has its own controller support which doesn't play nicely with steam's
which is why these tend to fight
I see, then I'm worried they might start fighting again..
if they don't fight now they probably won't in the future
ok cool; I guess I'll give an update in like 10mins if it's still working
thx for the help
yeah, which is why i clarified im just kidding
switching input schemes on a whim is not ideal
i've seen worse
like me spending 2 days on an issue that turned out to be just that a user thought they changed a setting but they didn't
lol yeah computers are temperamental
happens
either way, yeah lmk if anything changes
but im afraid i wont know what to do then
ok new problem actually... celeste and steam's controller support are fighting but only a little
I can't seem to crouch dash, I changed the binding too
no buttons work?
yeah, no matter what I bind to crouch dash, the crouch dash doesn't come through
question: do you have crouch dash mode set to hold
i don't know how to do that so maybe
its in settings again
ok wait what on earth is happening
so I had never actually restarted the game when I reactivated steam controller support since it had seemed to fix the problem, but now I did to see if it would help and now if nothing else my entire left joystick isn't working
ok this seems to be the problem; but there's no option to map the outer ring of the joysticks to like a normal joystick thing
also yes lol turns out I had changed this whoops
