Recently built my own pc and wanted to continue my modded journey. But when I started up olympus I got this error saying I need OpenGL 2.1 or ES 2 and i have OpenGl 1.1.0. What do I do? I have an rtx 4070 super if that helps

no

#

you can change it from windows settings

#

though i forgot where exactly

#

something about changing its power profile?

ember moss
#

Ohhhh thank youu

#

I'll try it when I'm back home

grim panther
#

oh i found it

#

from settings, system > display > display settings (bottommost option) > classic application, then browse and find olympus (%AppData%\Olympus\main.exe) and set it to high performance

#

@ember moss

ember moss
#

Thanks I'll try it when home, appreciate the help

grim panther
#

i remember encountering a similar issue, it was because i didn't have hardware acceleration enabled on my vm
then someone else had it and suggesting this worked for them

ember moss
#

Well let's hope it works for me

grim panther
#

likely will

ember moss
#

Is it alright if I ping you to update on if it works or not

#

I'll likely not home for quite a bit

grim panther
#

sure

ruby trout
#

usually selecting which gpu to use is more of a laptop thing, on a pc it should just use whichever one the monitor is plugged into thinkeline

ember moss

Workscatplush

which can lead to this

@grim panther something messed up happened it worked for a bit, at least everest did but I noticed I didn't get an olympus shortcut so I tried getting olympus again and I think it deleted itself or something, then why I try to download olympus again the same error accord eventhough I put it on high performance

#

I have both the github and non github olympus downloaded so maybe that's messing with it?

#

PauFr why are neither working anymore

ember moss
#

Been removing and re adding the appdata and putting on high performance I still get the sane message no matter what i try

grim panther
ember moss
#

FRICK idk what to do

grim panther
#

uhhhh uninstall olympus?

#

then install it again, and try removing and readding the performance setting

ember moss
#

Nada whenever I try to run it with appdata att high performance it just says the same thing

#

Been deleting and reading for a while now

grim panther
#

ffs ive seen this before and idk why this file is in use

#

...wait

grim panther
#

open the game files

#

go to the orig folder and go to the Saves folder

#

or no actually

#

just the orig folder

#

screenshot what you see

ember moss
grim panther
#

yes

ember moss
grim panther
#

nono

#

i just want the orig folder

#

and the folders at the top

#

one is enough

ember moss
#

Ohhh

#

Sorry i didn't see it before

#

here

grim panther
#

ok so it is a symlink

#

@modest kiln we might need to update the everest installer cus it tries to copy the file from itself to itself catplush

#
Saves\0-modsave-AchievementHelper.celeste -> orig\Saves\0-modsave-AchievementHelper.celeste

but orig\Saves is a symlink to Saves

modest kiln
#

Oh btw, the solution here is to simply install drivers for your GPU

#

Since a current-gen GPU definitely supports a more modern OpenGL version than one which came out 27 years ago

#

This is the one you want

grim panther
#

cus it worked for a second

#

then it didn't

modest kiln
#

Windows usually is smart enough to pick out the correct GPU / graphics device when needed

#

But even then, igpus also support OpenGL versions more recent than those which came out 27 years ago catsnug

#

The reason it fails here is because it doesn't pick up any GPU whatsoever

grim panther
#

wtf

#

but then

#

how did it work before

modest kiln
#

That one OpenGL thing it lists is one which is always provided by Windows

#

So yeah, try installing the driver and rebooting

grim panther
#

i suppose

ruby trout
modest kiln
#

Multi-monitor setups with different GPUs are an entirely different clusterfuck

#

I don't know the exact mechanisms at play here of the top of my head, but it involves cross-GPU framebuffer copies through the compositor afaik

ruby trout
#

I don't have to worry about that because I don't have an iGPU lol

modest kiln
ember moss
grim panther
#

yea

#

its straight from nvidia's website

ember moss
#

i'll update you once it's done

grim panther
#

oh no, don't update me
i want to stay the same version snip_upsidedown /s

modest kiln
#

Note that this makes Olympus work, it doesn't fix the old installer

ember moss
#

btw what am i downloading what is a driver?

grim panther
#

yes

ember moss
grim panther
#

oh wait, you're not asking whether it is a driver

modest kiln
grim panther
#

so like, your computer has a bunch of hardware installed

#

like the cpu, graphics card, sound card, etc

#

that's all well and good

#

but

ember moss
grim panther
#

its one thing having the hardware, its another one being able to talk with it

#

that is the job of a driver - its job is to talk with (drive) the hardware

#

in your case, the graphics card

#

its like a bridge between your operating system and the hardware

ember moss
#

should i get the express or custom version?

grim panther
#

eh express

ember moss
ember moss
#

Worked

grim panther
#

phew

ember moss
#

Mods even work like they should

#

I am now eevee

#

Thankss I appreciate it a ton

#

Also what more can you do with a driver if you don't mind telling me

crimson summit
#

drivers allow for fun stuff like being able to use your computer properly
