#Everest won't open (Texture2D staging buffer creation failed)
88 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
System.InvalidOperationException: Texture2D staging buffer creation failed! Error Code: The GPU will not respond to more commands, most likely because some other application submitted invalid commands.
The calling application should re-create the device and continue. (0x887A0007)
check your graphics drivers
what gpu do you have
Intel (R) Iris (R) Xe Graphics
you can find intel drivers on https://intel.com/ under the support tab
Intel's innovation in cloud computing, data center, Internet of Things, and PC solutions is powering the smart and connected digital world we live in.
ok i've updated the driver and the problem is still exactly the same
and also normal celeste works
it's just everest that doesn't
disable some mods which you don't use
i've disabled almost everything except ssc3 (which i need rn)
can i dm you the log.txt might have ssc3 spoilers

If you have Everest installed, you will need to reinstall it after verifying.
do you mean that it stops happening once you disable gallery collab?
well
this mostly started after i downloaded gallery collab
everest managed to open but then i had to download some dependencies (aura helper, glitch helper, qtpi's cat pack, underdragon's repository)
that's when everest refused to open
i removed qtpi's cat pack and underdragon's repository and it still refused to open, then i removed glitch helper and it opened (with gallery collab in the files but unable to be played) so i figured it was glitch helper
then today i added back qtpi's cat pack and underdragon's repository to check if it really was glitch helper and everest didn't open
so i thought it was just too many mods so i removed almost all of the maps in the mods folder even the ones that were blacklisted and everest still didn't open
then i removed gallery collab and its audio and it opened
so conclusion: ???
do you know how to check how much vram you currently have?
no
do what is described up there, and send a screenshot of your window
that is indeed very low
ok well this is a new computer so idk why it's like that
you may be running out of vram when you have multiple big mods enabled
is there a way to increase that
ok now i can't even open farewell
how is it getting worse when i didn't download anything new since yesterday
with so little any other pressure from other apps may be affecting it
ok
is it possible to get like a better gpu or am i stuck with this
idk anything abt computers
for a laptop, nope sadly
the only thing you can do is just have as little things open simultaneously and disable mods you arent using
i swear i never had this problem in april
like i could play vanilla contest no problem
not sure why that would be, but such low vram is very likely to cause all these problems
if you only enable gallery collab you will probably be able to play it without issues
yeah lots of graphics data can 100% cause those issues
was there some everest update in the last two months that caused maps to take up more ram or smthng
there is no way to tell but helpers should not contribute too much to that, so its probably maps
np
something seems a little off here
this is a big thing people dont talk about yeah

@viscid rampart note that for integrated GPUs, main memory is usually shared between the CPU and the GPU; usually you can change the split in the BIOS, i.e. you might be able to increase the amount of VRAM in there (note that said memory won't be accessible by the CPU though!)
What's the consequence of the CPU being assigned less VRAM?
What's a normal amt of VRAM to have
Is that the approx total memory?
i doubt it, that might be display related
open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go under the performance tab
Pretty sure it is actually
Also, there's a chance that additional memory could be used for GPU purposes already
Which could mean that we're just looking at an ordinary OOM
id believe that if it was sj or something like that
I'd believe it if this was a system with only 4GB of RAM running anything close to modern Windows - oh wait it is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB9bKl8ptj4 ok so i tried increasing the VRAM from this video
✅ How to Increase Dedicated Video Memory (VRAM) in Windows 10/11 for Intel, AMD Or All
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel You can look for other graphic card maked AMD Or Other.
GMM
DedicatedSegmentSize
1GB = 128MB
2GB = 256MB
4GB = 512MB
8GB = 2048MB...
and now it's worse
farewell and 7a no longer have fgtiles or stylegrounds
although farewell can open now so i guess that's an improvement
