#Everest won't open (Texture2D staging buffer creation failed)

I've updated Everest to the latest dev version, restarted my laptop, uninstalled and reinstalled Everest, and it still doesn't open (gets stuck on the loading screen). The error log says something about a Texture2d failing.

System.InvalidOperationException: Texture2D staging buffer creation failed! Error Code: The GPU will not respond to more commands, most likely because some other application submitted invalid commands.
The calling application should re-create the device and continue. (0x887A0007)

check your graphics drivers

viscid rampart
#

how do i do that

#

i'm on windows btw

drowsy linden
#

what gpu do you have

viscid rampart
#

Intel (R) Iris (R) Xe Graphics

drowsy linden
viscid rampart
#

and also normal celeste works

#

it's just everest that doesn't

drowsy linden
#

disable some mods which you don't use

viscid rampart
#

i've disabled almost everything except ssc3 (which i need rn)

drowsy linden
#

uhh im not sure then

#

send log.txt

viscid rampart
#

can i dm you the log.txt might have ssc3 spoilers

To switch to the version of Celeste using the FNA framework, go to your Steam properties for Celeste and switch to the opengl beta.
If you have Everest, you will need to reinstall it after doing this.

viscid rampart
#

still happens

#

something abt gallery collab

rough pelican
#

do you mean that it stops happening once you disable gallery collab?

viscid rampart
#

well

#

this mostly started after i downloaded gallery collab

#

everest managed to open but then i had to download some dependencies (aura helper, glitch helper, qtpi's cat pack, underdragon's repository)

#

that's when everest refused to open

#

i removed qtpi's cat pack and underdragon's repository and it still refused to open, then i removed glitch helper and it opened (with gallery collab in the files but unable to be played) so i figured it was glitch helper

#

then today i added back qtpi's cat pack and underdragon's repository to check if it really was glitch helper and everest didn't open

#

so i thought it was just too many mods so i removed almost all of the maps in the mods folder even the ones that were blacklisted and everest still didn't open

#

then i removed gallery collab and its audio and it opened

#

so conclusion: ???

rough pelican
#

do you know how to check how much vram you currently have?

viscid rampart
#

no

rough pelican
#

do what is described up there, and send a screenshot of your window

viscid rampart
#

is 128 mb not enough

rough pelican
#

that is indeed very low

viscid rampart
#

ok well this is a new computer so idk why it's like that

rough pelican
#

you may be running out of vram when you have multiple big mods enabled

viscid rampart
#

is there a way to increase that

rough pelican
#

i doubt it

#

your gpu is integrated so its normal that it is very bad

viscid rampart
#

ok now i can't even open farewell

#

how is it getting worse when i didn't download anything new since yesterday

rough pelican
#

with so little any other pressure from other apps may be affecting it

viscid rampart
#

ok

#

is it possible to get like a better gpu or am i stuck with this

#

idk anything abt computers

rough pelican
#

for a laptop, nope sadly

#

the only thing you can do is just have as little things open simultaneously and disable mods you arent using

viscid rampart
#

i swear i never had this problem in april

#

like i could play vanilla contest no problem

rough pelican
#

not sure why that would be, but such low vram is very likely to cause all these problems
if you only enable gallery collab you will probably be able to play it without issues

drowsy linden
#

yeah lots of graphics data can 100% cause those issues

viscid rampart
#

was there some everest update in the last two months that caused maps to take up more ram or smthng

rough pelican
#

dont think so

#

its probably just the maps itself being more bloated

viscid rampart
#

would an excessive amt of helpers take up ram

#

or is it just maps

rough pelican
#

there is no way to tell but helpers should not contribute too much to that, so its probably maps

viscid rampart
#

ok

#

thanks y'all

@viscid rampart note that for integrated GPUs, main memory is usually shared between the CPU and the GPU; usually you can change the split in the BIOS, i.e. you might be able to increase the amount of VRAM in there (note that said memory won't be accessible by the CPU though!)

viscid rampart

It's just your regular RAM

#

And the consequence is that you have slightly less RAM widegladeline3

viscid rampart
#

What's a normal amt of VRAM to have

drowsy linden
#

theres not a normal amount of vram

#

how much regular ram do you have

#

4 gb?

viscid rampart
drowsy linden

open task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go under the performance tab

astral barn
#

Pretty sure it is actually

#

Also, there's a chance that additional memory could be used for GPU purposes already

#

Which could mean that we're just looking at an ordinary OOM wideGladeline1

I'd believe it if this was a system with only 4GB of RAM running anything close to modern Windows - oh wait it is snip_stare

and now it's worse

farewell and 7a no longer have fgtiles or stylegrounds

although farewell can open now so i guess that's an improvement

that thumbnail is so funny 3dgrineline

they changed their vram so hard they changed their total memory, the gpu, the gpu vendor, and the monitor it's connected to
