does your username contain accented characters (like ą, ż, ć) or characters from other scripts, like russian, korean, mandarin?

are you sure? it sounds like that may be the case

problems like this are, from my experience, usually caused by stuff like that

i don't mean your steam username

i mean the windows user folder

you shouldn't rename the folder, from what i know doing so can seriously mess up other programs and stuff

what you are doing is basically how olympus updates itself laugheline

everest is attached to your celeste install, so just validate game files via steam

#

is there some sort of difficulty you're facing

there should effectively be zero side effects by updating manually
