Don't need listen. MaxPlayers should be fine, though some odd reason doesn't alwayts seem to take effect unless you have the map stated in the start line

Set up a development server with /Game/TheIsle/Maps/Landscape3/Isle_V3 and people aren't loading in properly. They can see the server, but it takes forever to load and they finally time out. It is the first Isle server I've set up so there might be something wrong.

As of now it is looking pretty good. I wish there was some sort of RCON, but it is what it is. Haven't been able to test the MOTD but it sounds like that goes in a text file in the saved folder vs in the game ini files.

That is odd though because there is a MOTD line in a lot of the instructions for server setup.

motd game.ini is the old way, need to make MOTD.txt in the Saved folder.
Isle used to use Battleeye, had some sort of rcon but it was causing to many issues and removed, in-game admin is being worked on,sure there is more to come to make things easier later 😃

Standard starting the server uses the map /Game/TheIsle/Maps/Developer/DV_TestLevel.DV_TestLevel

Question :
How can I force my server to use the map Thenyaw_Island ?

I was looking for a guide to launch a non-standard map for dedicated servers, but I found nothing.

I looked at the game client logs, there I learned the location of the map Thenyaw_Island..
but starting the server gives only errors and refers to the absence of the map...Probably the directory of folders and files TheIsle-WindowsNoEditor.pak and TheIsle-Windows server.pak different ,and therefore my suspicions were unfounded :(

More I have no idea how to force the server to run the map Thenyaw_Island

When I host from the game is it then only single player or can other people join? Because my friend couldn't find me when I did it.
Does the AI setting work on it and if so how many dinosaurs does it spawn? I couldn't find any when I was on Survival Mode.
What do the settings Database and Eperimental mean/do?

1 As of right now I believe hosting a game is single player only, anyone who knows otherwise I'd love for them to correct me
2 AI is currently broken and doesn't work
3 Database means that it will save your dinosaur and Experimental as of right now does nothing

the private setting basically means that anybody with the password that can see it, can join it. But as stated above, hosted servers are currently singleplayer. It might work with LAN but it has so far been untested

What are some good server hosts that anyone might recommend? Me and a few friends wanted to start a server ourselves and we went with CitadelServers to begin with, but they are no help at all and won't answer any of our questions. We're thinking about going with PingPerfect but I wanted to know if anyone had any advice or other options. Thanks in advance ^3^

@tropic beacon a lot of servers use PingPerfect. In my experience of using them with my friend when I was an owner, they are decent, but like a lot of things they can be difficult at times. I do recommend them though.

Try having her exit the game and then rejoin again. Also have her check to make sure she's got the same version of the game the server is on.

as of 0.1.39.2, server admins have two new commands, /time and /weather, if you type just the command you'll get a list of possible values to use, and be careful with setting the weather to storm or higher as it won't leave until you reset currently, let me know if you have any issues

@placid stratus As far as i'm aware. Admin commands are only on dev branch currently. As devs are experimenting on how well they work and if there are any problems. Once devs are satisfied, they release it to regular branch. That is probably why it currently doesn't work on regular branch.

Those settings probably don't work anymore, there's a hard cap of 2 AI dinos at any time currently. If you want to see them, stay on flat terrain without lots of rocks, or go on DV-TestLevel.

My suggestion would be to suicide as a shant or maybe cama in a few popular locations.
Cama bodies may lag your server tho.

Just wanted to report that our server is getting underground Ai Oro spawns too. I’ve seen at least 6-7 of them like a 1/4 mile under the surface. Also when herbivore players join, they seem to only be spawning around them and not the carnis. Hard to tell if that was intentional but seems kind of backwards.

You can check for AI by entering spectator with backslash then hitting your "Delete" key. They will show with green names instead of white.

I have a question about admin commands. I am setting up my own server and am trying to figure out how the admins on Pangaea use things like teleport or to become dino's not given access to by survival. I asked them and they told me to come ask here.

@naive onyx It's not your provider it's the recent steam update broke the SteamCMD commandline causing alot of providers to be unable to automate nearly all steam based dedicated servers. People directly affected are people who use and have installed mods on their server.

Know anything about Windows batch? Add a loop marker to your batch file, <start server>, 4 hour (14400s) timeout, taskkill, goto loop marker. Very basic way to get what you want, may stop auto restart on crashing as it's untested

@magic mauve @inner ermine I had a similar crash followed by a cascade of crashes on different threads with servers using an i7-7700k, was unable to pin down exactly what causes it but moving the servers onto machines with another CPU fixed the issue

Hi there!
So I set up a server through PingPerfect about a month ago. It was running good, no issues to speak of really. Then this new update comes out, awesome update btw, and a bunch of new people make all these new servers. And suddenly mine stops letting me in.

I t's not popping up on the list at all.
I tried joining through my friends on steam who are able to find it on the list and get in with no problem and it sends me to some random server I've never heard of called Nosk (AI enabled)

I went onto Ping Perfect to see if there was a fix someone else figured out and they gave a few options.

Going through the steam view menu on the main steam page to find the server and join that way. I found my server, clicked join and nothing happened.
Going to the favorites tab in the view menu and finding the server via the IP/PORT and adding it to faves then joining that way through the menu. Did not work, it ways the server isn't responding. Which is weird because the server is up and others are able to join.
Set the launch options with +connect (the IP/PORT I need to use to get into the server) And it just sends me to the same Nosk server....

I even tried changing one of my servers from Nitrado to run the isle but for some reason that one never even popped up in the list either...

My apologies for the wall of text but I am about at my wits end with this and really hoping you guys can help somehow.

NOTE: sometimes after LOT of refreshing it pops up.
My big concerns are simple, I wanna enjoy the server I am paying for and if it is doing this to me then is it doing it to others that are looking for servers?

you cant really do that right now without physically editing the database using a couple of other pieces of software. eventually there should be server commands that will allow admins to do stuff like that on the fly.

you just go into the database folder, open the file for the desired steam id with any text editor and change it as you wish. but that only works if the player isnt currently ingame, safe logged, or is gone for more than 5 minutes if he didnt safe log. on the next login, the changes take effect

We recently bought a The Isle Server on Nitrado, however each time we try to change to sandbox mode, it is stuck on the Survivial mode. Even choosing progression doesn't change it. Does anyone know the solution for this? 'Cause we paid money for it and now it doesn't seem to work.
We tried changing it even in the game-ini files, but this didn't helped either.
Asking the Nitrado Support didn't help aswell, sadly.

So far everything seems to be fine but the server itself does not seem to be popping up on the list. I am thinking I have something not setup correctly but nothing seems out of the ordinary. I have looked at most of the guides I can find but they are mostly outdated and don't help with this issue. Any help is appreciated. Don't be shy to tag meh.

You can create a start bat and put the ip that it will be running on. This could be the issue as to why it is not appearing online.

Are you setting the Ip to your local IP or external IP? Are the three ports you have the the server using allow traffic forwarding to your pc from the modem/router?

@little trench I am using the IPV4 Address in the command prompt when you type ipconfig. idk about the 3 port thing. I only have the query port and the query similar to what the person before was showing me. I have gone into the modem and done the whole port forwarding as far as I am aware. I was following mostly from this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/376210/discussions/16/1621724915777338010/ but when I start the server it either does not show up on the server list or if I use the other ip, the one you find online, assuming that's the public one, then it says it can't bind to the port.

I don't have that much know how about that side of things. Only done it using telnet directly into the modem and completly openign the ports, that was an much older modem and is quite often locked out on new ones. That way also removed any security.

Ok new question, when we load up the sever it has a lock showing on it.
People can still get in without a password which is fine. We do not want it locked. I have done though the files and made sure there is no password but when we restart the server it still shows up.

Dynamic time of day currently does not function, but yes this would control the day/night cycle. Also not sure about the lock. Haven't seen that happen with no p/w before. Have you got a steam group linked to it perhaps?

@barren steppe I have used pingperfect in the past and they're not bad at all. Everything you need is there mostly and very rarely has problems in my experience anyway. I have since moved to hosting via. my own pc since I have upgraded and am able to do so. But pingperfect was a good starting point for me.

Ok, thenyaw doesn't need as much RAM as V3 does, so what I would do if you have the option and funds are:
CPU priority: High (Highest)
Hosted on: SSD
Extra RAM: 3-4 GB (6 GB)

Everything in parenthesis is an "if you want to be safe and can afford it."

I've found that's a pretty reliable setup, and I know that Ping allows all these options. Were you planning on hosting it yourself, or were you going to use a provider? And if so do you know which one yet?

I think its more so you were given an answer. If you want to rent from a server host and if you can afford it and they are good then go for it, otherwise if your computer is good enough then host it from there.

I can only say from my experience using Pingperfect it wasn't so much the slots that would be the worry, but moreso the maps. Thenyaw atm doesn't require too much RAM, I think its 4GB? I could be wrong there, but in terms of V3 it needs more then that. But you said you are going for 32 RAM correct? Might be a bit much but again if you can afford it and want to have that much RAM then ok, but I'd say about 8GB maybe for V3? Should be able to change settings anytime though so the settings shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Last I Looked at V3, just loading up took 7GB of memory on windows, add extra for connecting players. Games like CSS 50-70MB per player, can give that as a guide, Isle doesn't use as much last I looked. 16 will be good for the isle. 8 might be issues.

16GB inclusive of windows should give plenty of room to have high player count. I haven't ran a server for a little while now. While it uses a decent chunk of ram, it's mostly CPU intensive. An e3-1270v2 started to struggled with 80+ con-current players. Not sure how much it has changed, as that was back from when Redwoods V2 came out. & only asingle thread was used. @hollow moon

@stark apex Do /help if you’re an admin to see a full list of commands ingame. In terms of seeing player/ai names the default key is the delete key, and to go into spectator mode it’s the \ key. To teleport to the area where you are in spectator it’s just SHIFT \ and if it’s an area you can tp too your dinosaur will appear there.

I’ve heard of them, seen what there options are, they don’t appear to have a ram option? I’m unsure how that side of things works but I assume it’s gotta work somehow. I’d say most server hosts are fairly similar, just the difference is pricing and maybe support, sometimes functions that are meant to work don’t work or just aren’t there. I haven’t personally hosted or heard anything about them but I only went through one soooo xD but yeah maybe someone else here knows of them and whether it’s better or whatnot.

Ok, first I think there was an issue with your config file, so I deleted some things I think were causing compatibility issues, and left everything else, trying not to delete anything I don't think would cause issues. so delete everything in the old one (via the text editor), and paste what's in this one.

Ok, so first to make sure you and your server are on the right branch. From your main Pingperfect gamepanel,

find the button that says Legacy/Beta update, and click it.
From there, use the dropdown menu to select development.
Then, use the execute command to run it through.
Let the wheel quit turning, and then go back to the main Game Services screen.
From there, stop the server using the big red stop button.
After it's stopped, let it set for about 30 seconds to a minute.
Once that's done, start back up the server, and give it a minute or two.
When you're done downloading the beta for the game, you should be able to find your server in the list. If you can't, say something.

Ping perfect is, as far as I can tell, one of the most widely used services to run the Isle, and I imagine that has a reason behind it such as the ticket responses. Their customizability is also pretty great.

Hey guys! I do not recommend Citadel Servers. It took them over 3.5 hours to respond to our initial ticket telling them our server would not function or boot up.

Then after 4 hours, they said 'we fixed it' but I don't have a way to confirm since we've moved to PingPerfect. Much better service.

Ordered a small server to try in Australia. Server ended up being in the UK. The furthest location they have from Australia. In ticket reply after several DAYS. They claim they couldn't change the IP on Isle servers due to the game. No IPs in Aus(Which was very false doing it myself in testing)

No refund, and refused to. I had a server despite being half a world away, they had their money is all they cared about
