I recently got a new laptop and installed i3 with xorg on it (yay!!!) My problem is the battery life. My laptop has a pretty small battery and I set it to cap at 80% in bios (for battery health) usually I keep my laptop plugged in so it’s not a big deal but I’ve heard that limiting your cpu frequency could be good for battery life and maybe just a good idea in general. I’ve heard of autocpufreq but don’t know how to get it or if I should. What do you guys recommend?

Most modern Intel/AMD laptops CPU already uses P-states/frequency scaling automatically. Idle power is usually well-optimized if nothing is misconfigured.
You could use auto-cpufreq.
Hmm okay
I notice that sometimes my fan gets really really loud when I’m not doing anything and I thought maybe it was a cpu thing, I looked up how to lower the frequency until the next boot and it seemed to work fine. Should I get auto-cpufreq?
My cpu is 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-1315U (8) @ 4.50 GHz
Yes, it’s worth trying.
Just
yay -S auto-cpufreq
sudo auto-cpufreq --install
