Keyring in multiple desktop environments/window managers

Hey, so I want to be able to seamlessly use multiple WMs without having any trouble.

My problem though is that the GNOME Keyring doesn't seem to work flawlessly. It currently only is a problem in my browser which is Vivaldi but problem also happens with Chrome. If that happens, I get the either the following screen or I don't get it but am simply logged out of EVERYTHING (so probably cookies are reset).

Installed WMs/DEs are:

• GNOME
• Plasma
• Sway
• Hyprland

Configs for sway/hyprland are:

• ~/.config/sway/config: https://bpa.st/QFVA
• ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf: https://bpa.st/T6TQ

If I switch between Sway and Hyprland, nothing weird happens and I can just use the browser as before. The keyring entry for Vivaldi/Chrome only seems to break if I switch to Plasma and back to Sway/Hyprland.

Any ideas to solve this?

(these configs are relevant to both the wms and the keyring so they're probably causing the issue)

also kde doesn't use gnome keyring by default--is that something you wanted?

gnome-keyring.portal and kwallet.portal seem to be clashing--do you have a particular preference?

we can also try to work out having both of them, if you just run vivaldi in terminal and show the errors it might help us with that

KWallet is deactivated because somebody in #quick-questions recommended going GNOME Keyring because it's more universally usable. So yes, GNOME Keyring is VERY preferred.

ok then lets make the config work for everything then
create the file ~/.config/xdg-desktop-portal/portals.conf
and put the following in it:

org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Secret=gnome-keyring```

then try relogging

how do i test if it runs?

or do i just test if vivaldi is fucked up?

It still works in Sway and Hyprland as expected but as soon as I switch to Plasma, I'm logged out 👍 I also get this thing (https://pastebin.com/qmMqm0W9) which I don't know if it's particularly relevant, it's about a thing called drkonqi-coredump-launcher that crashes upon logging in.

And as I said, it's disabled.

Although I'm not sure if I may have found something that might relate to the keyring topic. This is a .desktop file that launches pam_kwallet_init even though I disabled it in Plasma, so maybe it launches through the XDG autostart mechanism even though it shouldn't and then conflicts with the GNOME Keyring.

replace Exec=/usr/lib/pam_kwallet_init with Exec=notify-send "kwallet called"

then retry the vivaldi thing

If I replace it with that, I don't get a notification, so I assume it isn't called?

Also, I tested GNOME now. I am logged in in Sway, when I swap to GNOME I stay logged in without any weird popups. If I then go back from GNOME to Sway I get the "Continue with Data Loss" message again. Not sure if it's any relevant.

The weird thing is that the "Continue with Data Loss" thing if I click it, I am still logged in and all my tabs are still there.
