#eFootball Errors Launching

Hello guys, recently switched to cachyos because I didn't want to be on windows and being able to play eFootball is important to me because I was hooked on Fifa before I left windows so now I need eFootball to work.

The issue I have stems from the way eFootball runs. It has its own settings.exe file which is where you configure many things about it, such as window mode, resolution, controller type etc.

This settings.exe file only runs on the first launch, and on the first launch, the game runs just fine. The only issue I have is that it doesn't detect my controller (Dualshock 4). So when i close out of the game to try and debug that, I change absolutely nothing, reboot the game, and alas it doesn't even boot anymore, gets stuck on a black screen.

I have so far tried every single proton version, and without a proton version, to no avail. Also tried a bunch of launch commands such as forcing it into fullscreen, putting it in gamemode, pretty much anything I found from here I tried: https://www.protondb.com/app/1665460

One thing I did notice is that in the settings.exe file it has 3 main issues:

  1. doesnt properly recognize resolution (doesnt seem to be an issue since when it boots its in 1920x1080)
  2. the controller menu has no options for switching between directinput and xinput, so it only allows directinput, with a dropdown and the only option being "Wireless Controller"
  3. When looking at the specs that it says my pc has, it says I have a Radeon HD 5600, which I do not. This leads me to believe that this is the reason it is running into issues with black screen, because that gpu is 10+ years old.

I haven't been able to do much other than these things, I have tried to run the settings.exe file through wine to no avail either. Also tried to throw in random launch commands ai gave me with no fix either. Haven't seen many other people with this issue, and any on protondb were able to fix pretty easily which I cannot

Unfortunately after the last update (5.0) it stopped working reliably.

I can sometimes get it to work by forcing steam to download the pre-caching data and forcing it to process Vulkan shaders. To do that you can go to Steam > Settings > Download > Shader Pre-Caching (last section) and then disable it entirely. Once you see the size of the cache zero out, close Steam and remove the 1665460 folder located in the shadercache folder (should be in the steamapps folder):

rm -rf /home/user/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/shadercache/1665460/

Once deleted, open Steam again, go to the eFootball library page and from there go to Steam settings and enable Shader Pre-Caching again. You should see Steam download the pre compiled shaders for eFootball: once done, start the game and WAIT for the Vulkan processing to be done. If it starts up correctly, you're good to go, if not, try launching it a few more times. If it does not work after 3+ tries, repeat the whole process.
