This is normal
The rest has to be setup afterwards as per general recommendations
did bro rrly say rtfm to a roblox player
Wdym ?
insider joke
Yes I did. This is an arch support server what did you expect
I don't want to be rude but this might be a sign that Arch is maybe not the right distro for you. Anyway though. What would you like to have in your setup?
we could do both
I will be teaching you how to navigate the wiki, just so you learn a bit too :D
In the linkthat I sent above this is point 4) Graphical user interface
yes
oh yea we should probably do user account first
which would be secion 1.1 in the general recommendations
you will then find User Management as a link which will give you this helpful thing
yes at the bottom it links to general recommendations after install
understand it first
yes because you need to obviously adjust the command to what you need
Wdym by that
do you have the wiki open?
true, so you want -m to create a home folder and nothing else
that will give you the default bash login shell and not additional groups
the wiki provides an example for this
yes, the # means you need to be root but seeing as you are logged in as root this is the command
No need
what is your plan for privilage escalation then?
yea i told you
Now after this command what do i do
technically you don't but it is convenient
then follow the install steps in the wiki and then do the configuration steps
then you don't learn
installing sudo is really easy you can do it no problem :D
if you have questions just ask :)
On a phone click here for the contents
Ok
hen installation and afterwards configurations
but that is probably just phone writing P instead of p at the start I guess
ok
ah do a system update filrst: pacman -Syu
Oh yea
Wait
My tp link internet think it doesnt connect and i have to unplug it and plug it again
When i boot to linux
LOL
And i forgot how to connect
wdym you forgot how to connect? Wifi?
probably iwctl
oh you probably skipped installing your network mananger
that was part of the install guide
did you click the network configuration link?
What nwtwork th9ng ?
or the other one on the bottom?=
and that is EXACTLY why you should learn how to read
you need to set that up using the archiso
since you can't connect to the internet from your install
I am cooked ?
no
Oh ok
who else is here xd
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Network_configuration#Automatic
while you wait you can pick one of these network managers to use
probably NM
Ok
NetowrkManager
chroot into the system (you don't need to mount your swap)
I dont jave a swap file
just like you did in the install, mount your / to /mnt and /boot to /mnt/boot
then arch-chroot /mnt
I dont remember shit
Tbh
real question actually, what made you choose Arch?
Its the best one
I jave tried mint ubuntu nobara fedora
And its just good i like it
ok I don't know how your system looks so you will now have to send some output
lsblk -f
ah i see dual boot
I actually believe that i should had used arch8nstall lol
sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
Yep
I think you should install CachyOS ngl
after that, sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/boot
no sudo I am stuid
you are root already
wtf, do ls /mnt pls
Ok done
send output
Ok
make sure I can read the mountpoints
oh you forgot sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
yes then the other one
Sda5 ?
yes
Done
then arch-chroot /mnt
are you trolling?
why did you mount it on top of it
you needed to run this
Oh ok
we can fix it from here but reboot is prob faster for you
then
mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/boot
arch-chroot /mnt
Ok
it's not that you are annoying it's just that I am really not sure if what I am doing here right now if worth it
bare Arch is not for an average desktop user
archinstall is buggy as fuck. Why did you not look into CachyOS?
in the chroot?
ok then follow the steps to install and enable networkmanager: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NetworkManager#Installation
Pacman -S NetworkManager ?
Ok now
have you enabled it?
I really start to th8nk arch is not for me
it's just reading and doing
Ok
bare Arch is so damn nice because it is DYI and makes you understand your system more in detail
if you just want an Operating system that just works I wouldn't recomment it
you can push through and learn a lot a long the way or just use a distro that is already setup. The choice is yours
I want to install arch but its to damn hard for me sadl6
🙂
So i will not give up
But just so you know i jave 30m left
Ok
have you enabled the networkmanager service?
No
Idk how
Just sent me the commands and i will pit hem
Explain them in the end
I eill read them
I don't have to since they are LITERLLAY 2cm down in the wiki
Ok
click on start/enable to see how that is done
ok ngl I might have been a little harsh
Ok
Oh ty
only tells you how to start it not how to enable it weird
Done
READ
since you already did /etc/hosts in the install (I hope) we are actually done (we don't need to run the command since we haven't changed any configuration files)
I don5 remember doing it
so wifi works now in your install as well
🙂
ok then check cat /etc/hosts
seems good
Ok ok
you can reboot
yes
you might need to connect to the Wifi in you install now
Ok
cursive things are stuff you want to change depending on your setup
How do i see if ssid or bssid
Should show in the list
Now you connect
Nmcli device wifi connect HOLLAND ( for exaple ) password password ?
Yes
Ok
But you need to be careful with spaces
Put nmcli device wifi connect "HOLLAND" password 123 instead
I havr to type the wifi password right
?
Fuck. I gtg
Sorry for your time
Can we do it tmr ?
Anyways gn
Sorry 🙂
I have an exam tomorrow but I'll see if I find the time
If you cant i will find some1 else or just wait for you 🙂
or set it up by yourself by checking the wiki, that takes longer but will help you in the long run
Ok
Gl on the exam
ty
how did bro even boot 😭
