The command looks right. Im not sure why its complaining about read only... flonk

gentle arrow
#

Not sure why the additional drives are mounted /mnt/mnt/sdb

past dawn
#

i have games on it

#

and some bash scripts

#

so in system it will be /mnt/sdb

gentle arrow
#

You could mount em later that eliminates a potential issue, but Im not sure thats why its complaining.

past dawn
#

i just umounted them and there are still that error

gentle arrow
#

Try umounting then and retry. Otherwise the rest looks good.

#

Dang.

#

I have installed arch only a handfull of times, Im not exactly the most qualified to debug installation issues beside the obvious stuff. toks

past dawn
#

thats strange

#

wait

#

@gentle arrow

gentle arrow

#

isnt pacstrap /mnt like pacman to /mnt

gentle arrow
#

Not only are you inside the iso but you never wanna run -Sy, always -Syu, partial upgrades arent supported, you risk breaking your system.

#

Did you manage to pacstrap?

past dawn
gentle arrow
#

Try pacman -Syyu

past dawn
#

same

gentle arrow
#

But... if you havent installed the base system with pactrap its a bit odd to try and run pacman, Im not sure what youre trying to accomplish.

#

Like youre in the iso right now.

past dawn
#

i guess

#

idk the name of it

gentle arrow
#

You need to get that pacstrap working.

past dawn
#

reflector didn't generate mirror list

gentle arrow
#

Then you can chroot and do additional shit.

past dawn
#

for some reasen

gentle arrow
#

Did you install the base system and then reflector?

#

Sounds like you never got around to get that pacstrap working.

past dawn
#

reflector is in archiso

gentle arrow
#

Great.

past dawn
#

and its runs automaticly

#

like in pacman.d/mirrorlist it could be

mirrorlist generated by reflector

#

but now its just arch linux repository mirror list
generated on 2025 10 21

gentle arrow
#

Then uhm cat /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

#

Uhmm

past dawn
gentle arrow
#

What was your reflector command?

#

I doubt the mirrors are an issue atm, the ping seemed to work as well.

past dawn
#

reflectors runs AUTOMATICLY
and it also says read only fs 🙂

gentle arrow
#

Then youre just going around in circle. The original error message you got from pacstrap is very valid and confirmed then.

#

Your fs is readonly, somehow.

#

Not sure why or how though.

#

You can either try and find an answer online and if you cant figure it out.
Can try making a new post to bump this one with the new info you got, editing this one with a better title like "file system is readonly, cant run pacstrap", try your luck in #quick-questions or try the arch installer if you really cant figure it out.

#

Depending how urgently you need the system up and running.

#

Your ISO seems like it's broken

past dawn
#

and it was working

gentle arrow
shut locust

I haven't seen this error before, and because it's on the ISO it makes me thing it's been corrupted somehow

gentle arrow
#

How does that corelate to a read only filesystem?

past dawn
shut locust
#

You can try rebooting and see if this issue this happens, but if continues, I would try reflashing the USB

shut locust
gentle arrow
#

Ehh, I would try and follow the clear error messages before wasting times on blind guesses.

shut locust
#

or maybe something with pacman on the ISO is messed and causing pacstrap to fail

shut locust
past dawn
#

no

gentle arrow
shut locust
#

I've read it lol, and if something isn't working on the ISO you should first try rebooting it

upbeat siren
# past dawn no

dumb question but did you connect to wifi and check your DNS settings?

past dawn
gentle arrow
#

fsdeshrug perhaps rebooting might help but I still dont understand how that would magically fix the fs error.

past dawn
#

reboot fixed that

gentle arrow
upbeat siren
#

oh lol

shut locust
#

Try remounting your partitons and see if pacstrap works now

gentle arrow
#

Oh well, fking voodoo magic I swear. Here, have a cookie for being right.

can i ignore that error?

#

about vconsole

shut locust
#

Yeah that's fine, the sd-vconsole hook expects it to exist but it works fine without it

#

You can create a blank file at /etc/vconsole.conf later and it'll stop showing up

past dawn
#

also errors were encountered during the build

upbeat siren
gentle arrow
#

Oh

past dawn
gentle arrow
#

Nvm

#

Yeah my discord is laggy.

#

Hmm I wonder if its only because of the vs console or if it outright didnt work.

shut locust
#

That typically just means that there was an error listed earlier from one of the hooks

gentle arrow
#

Okay.

shut locust
#

I think it would say something else if it failed outright

gentle arrow
#

Yeah my guess too.

#

Can try going on with the rest and if linux doesnt boot you'll know the build is broken.

past dawn
#

permission denied for root?

shut locust
#

Files have to be marked as executable before you can run them with ./

past dawn
#

oh

#

i forget that

gentle arrow
#

@past dawn
