#[SOLVED] GPU Driver Not Installing
87 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I now got nvidia-open and still nothing changed after a reboot
6.15.2-arch1-1
I looked around and it seems it might be a laptop issue and how the gpu is integrated.
Which gpu
rtx 3050 laptop GPU
laptop, might be a mux issue
lspci -k | grep -iEA3 'VGA|3D|RENDER|DISPLAY'
can you check this first?
Just nvidia, not nvidia-open
same thing happened with nvidia, I get it, I reboot and nothing changes
Can you show the lspci command again after doing that?
You should see a 3rd "kernel driver in use" line, like for the intel one above
Cleaning up is never a bad idea
but that should have worked 🤔
The system should be smart enough to ignore drivers it can't use (or isn't using at the time)
Yea idk, everywhere I look I seem to find simple solutions, but none of them work. This might make me want to switch back to windows, even though I got used to my linux environment
Loads of people use 3050s with no issue, I wouldn't give up yet
Nice thing about Arch is that you get nothing by default, so you can completely safely and sanely completely remove all these drivers, and nothing will go wrong (besides not working with no drivers)
Based on the wiki, nvidia is what you need
I removed all previous nvidia drivers and installed them again and still it didn't fix anything. Am I missing something obvious?
I did sudo pacman -Syu or are you talking about something else?
does it say "nothing to do" now?
Yeah that's what i meant
Hmm
pacman -Qlq nvidia | grep $(uname -r)
If it didn't return anything, that's why your driver isn't loading
This issue needs to be resolved
Yeah this is a partial upgrade issue
Good spot @reef grail 👍
mesa-git? That's from the AUR I assume?
yea probably
That's blocking your Syu so probs should be removed
It is 😛
dam
When did you last Syu with no errors?
yeah you've been partially upgraded for a while now :v
honestly I think I was doing updates quite often but maybe never realised that it wasn't actually going thru
so maybe like 2 months was the last succesful one
anyways, fixed all the mistakes, try to rerun, sorry
I like to -Syu right after an upgrade, to see "nothing to do". That means everything should be happy
Wait so what's the difference between -Syu and -Su?
If pacman ever fails then it is the same as running pacman -Sy which is a system breaking command and needs to be fixed asap
-Su is upgrading without refreshing
useful if you wanna save time and have refreshed prior (i.e after a failed -Syu)
no, this is expected
there's an announcemnt in arch's website with instruction of fixing it
OMG IT FIXED IT, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH
