#[SOLVED] GPU Driver Not Installing

My GPU can't seem to detect any driver. I've already tried downloading: "nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-settings" and after downloading them and rebooting the issue is still the same.

I also tried adding all nvidia packages to my conf file so they would run on boot, but nothing changed.

Any help is appreciated.

#

I'm also on hyprland if that changes anything

I now got nvidia-open and still nothing changed after a reboot

what's your kernel?

#
uname -r
rough cedar
#

6.15.2-arch1-1

#

I looked around and it seems it might be a laptop issue and how the gpu is integrated.

reef grail

rtx 3050 laptop GPU

#

laptop, might be a mux issue

#
 lspci -k | grep -iEA3 'VGA|3D|RENDER|DISPLAY'

can you check this first?

rough cedar
sonic pond
#

3050 is a NV170 chip and so requires just nvidia

#

.aw nvidia

Can you show the lspci command again after doing that?

#

You should see a 3rd "kernel driver in use" line, like for the intel one above

rough cedar
#

Would it be easier if I deleted all drivers and tried installing them then?

sonic pond
#

Cleaning up is never a bad idea

#

but that should have worked 🤔

#

The system should be smart enough to ignore drivers it can't use (or isn't using at the time)

rough cedar
#

Yea idk, everywhere I look I seem to find simple solutions, but none of them work. This might make me want to switch back to windows, even though I got used to my linux environment

sonic pond
#

Loads of people use 3050s with no issue, I wouldn't give up yet

#

Nice thing about Arch is that you get nothing by default, so you can completely safely and sanely completely remove all these drivers, and nothing will go wrong (besides not working with no drivers)

#

Based on the wiki, nvidia is what you need

rough cedar
#

I removed all previous nvidia drivers and installed them again and still it didn't fix anything. Am I missing something obvious?

sonic pond
#

So you just have nvidia now?

#

can you share a pacman -Qs nvidia?

rough cedar
reef grail
#

Make sure you didn't do a partial upgrade

#

@rough cedar

rough cedar
#

I did sudo pacman -Syu or are you talking about something else?

sonic pond
#

does it say "nothing to do" now?

rough cedar
#

gives me this

reef grail
#

Yeah that's what i meant
Hmm

pacman -Qlq nvidia | grep $(uname -r)
#

If it didn't return anything, that's why your driver isn't loading

sonic pond
reef grail
#

Yeah this is a partial upgrade issue

sonic pond
#

Good spot @reef grail 👍

sonic pond
rough cedar
sonic pond
#

That's blocking your Syu so probs should be removed

reef grail
#
sudo pacman -R mesa-git

then

sudo pacman -Su mesa nvidia
#

sorry typo

rough cedar
#

is this a lot of packages?

sonic pond
#

It is 😛

rough cedar
#

dam

sonic pond
#

When did you last Syu with no errors?

reef grail
#

yeah you've been partially upgraded for a while now :v

rough cedar
#

honestly I think I was doing updates quite often but maybe never realised that it wasn't actually going thru

#

so maybe like 2 months was the last succesful one

reef grail
sonic pond
#

I like to -Syu right after an upgrade, to see "nothing to do". That means everything should be happy

rough cedar
#

Wait so what's the difference between -Syu and -Su?

sonic pond
#

If pacman ever fails then it is the same as running pacman -Sy which is a system breaking command and needs to be fixed asap

reef grail
#

-Su is upgrading without refreshing
useful if you wanna save time and have refreshed prior (i.e after a failed -Syu)

rough cedar
#

dam alright, thanks a lot already guys

#

wait...

#

is this bad?

reef grail
#

no, this is expected

#

there's an announcemnt in arch's website with instruction of fixing it

rough cedar
#

OMG IT FIXED IT, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH

reef grail
#

you're welcome 😄
