archinstall
just set up wifi urself in terminal with wpctl
from there archinstall will make it ez
@magic crater are you in the iso?
ay thats ur choice ig
some people like it
some dont
it is a mixed bag with the results u get tho tbh
but one thing i can be certain, it kinda brings the notion of reinstalling a system if u have issues to linux, which is something that isnt rly great if u wanna learn linux
welp, I got the iso
I cant get the usb to be gud
I can write it but the bios doesnt like to boot it
@magic crater show bios please
you probably need to turn off secure boot
its already off
oh
i'll show what I have
currently formatting my usb to fat32
This my boot menu
But it boots me into this
and then I get sad
@magic crater show every bios please
@magic crater disable tpm
have you tried just using a different usb port @magic crater
or another tool like ventoy
what type usb you got
yeah
a smurf
a decapitated smurf cuz I lost his head
why?
then how do you know it doesn't write? what happens when you press "start"?
lemme show you
operation returned due to time expiring
press ctrl + L in rufus
did rufus stop writing at all? or just when you tried to select GPT and UEFI?
Format operation started

does this happen with another usb as well?
and this
just with gpt, mbr it writes fine
I dont really count, cuz the other usb I got is literally a 2gb microsb plugged into a usb "adaptor"
well, have you tried?
oh wow its actually writing lol
microsb supremacy
ok, I'll try to boot now
It writes in gpt but when I boot the usb doesn't show
fuck
Sadge
what's in the Advanced tab in your bios? you omitted it
intel vtx and vtd
what are the boot mode options in the boot tab? UEFI and what?
greyed out, cant change
mhm
I dont have another
I was going to buy a new one today but I had some acidents yesterday
some real bad accidents
im ok now
that's good to hear
but yeah I didnt get to buy a new usb today
if you really can't use a usb, you could use netboot i guess
let me think
do you have ethernet?
@magic crater @cursive star USB-less Linux installer for Windows https://rltvty.net/installlinux.html
you can change it to be arch
can you?
try it and see
well, the autor clearly states they don't actually recommend using it on main pc
Nope
well then i guess you can inject the arch iso directly to one of your partitions
I could buy the cable
I was thinking of this prob
I wonder why
you could try this though
but the author of wubiuefi says they don't support arch
but i guess you could try if it's just the iso anyway
but i recommend doing it manually
The only idea that came to my mind was trying to dual boot linux in another partition and fron there delete the other whole
But that is probably not possible
isn't that what we're trying to do?
Im reading all now, I was getting to my bed
good
Mhmm
Idk why acer has this many problems with trying to install smth from a usb ๐ฅ
There are tutorials on YouTube on how to do the opposite, install windows to the acer aspire 5 that had linux
I tried it and my laptop just black screened for a while and came back to life
why would anyone ever do that
I also dont know why
you were supposed to go to bed
I tried that like 2 days ago
tried what
The method the guy showed to install windows from the Linux laptop
In fact, it did not work
do you think if you did the method backwards it would work /j
Its not like theres a backwards way
welp
You should've waited 10 minutes before sending this message

It could've been perfect 12 hours in between the messages
Let's hope it works
hopefully this doesnt explode anything
something is happening
not a good sign
this all can be avoided by getting a usb
assuming it's not an issue with the laptop
acer hates me
@magic crater which one? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/Acer
a 515-54
@magic crater try this next
do this and update your bios @magic crater
boot option is now custom but still boots me into the efi shell
If you laptop has other usb ports try them
already
Bruh
I could install a older version of my bios ig
Do.other distros work?
havent tried
๐
hey killertofu, sticzus
I found these missing
the left its the ISO dvd and in the right is the usb
@cursive star
And which usb is that? The smurf one?
idk if this can mean anything
yes
Show me the full contents of the USB
Do like tree or something in the cmd
On your smurf
or dir @magic crater
well it seems like the only difference is
so i don't know what was the windows explorer meowing about
walk down to the nearest store and get a >5$ usb and use that one
Is your phone rooted? :D
I dont think so
I cant do that rn
its night time and I got some facial problems
thats not much but I do need the lift to go to the store
I would give you a lift
Rn i will try and boot arch linux iso from windows 11
Try and copy the mentioned files to the usb via the file explorer
So mount the iso file in file explorer
It eill have a name
For it has the name DVD DRIVE ๐ ARCH_202507
Bruh : D = emoji
but everything seems good
?
!
Wait did he fix.the issue?
no
Oh
but the files don't seem missing from the usb
of course, there are ways
Create new FAT32 partition Labeled ARCH_202507
Copy the iso files there
Than reboot and see boot menu
If it not there dont worry
You somehow booted into efi shell from usb so
Use it to execute /EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.efi
but before that you must find which is your archlinux partition
Write that partition and : in the efi shell
Then this
And good luck
[Btw always resize windows partition from windows itself onlyyyyyy]
@magic crater
Greetings
I will read what you got for advice
Hopefully it fixes it, if not ny friend is gonna buy me a new usb
welp as you said I copied the iso files to the usb
not so much ๐ฅ
how so
@magic crater
helo
