I’ve installed Archlinux recently, and for some reason reason I can’t connect to the internet. Yes, I have installed and enabled the network manager. I've also tried reconfiguring it using the wiki.

When I tried connecting to WiFi manually, this was the response:

Error: 802-11-wireless-security.key-mgmt: property is missing.

Or that no secrets were provided(?)

Sorry if I seem clueless, just in advance, I'm new to this

@frozen herald did you get a backend ie iwd?

frozen herald
old mortar
#

@frozen herald iwctl

frozen herald
old mortar
#

@frozen herald control c

frozen herald
#

Terminated it

old mortar
#

sudo systemctl enable --now iwd

frozen herald

old mortar

@frozen herald that's not in a chroot

#

you need to be in the iso

frozen herald
#

Yeah I thought of that too, how do I enter the iso?

old mortar
#

boot from the usb

frozen herald
#

@old mortar Like during a manual install? I initially used the automatic installer

frozen herald
#

I don’t get it

old mortar
#

@frozen herald reboot

#

plug the usb in

#

boot into the iso

frozen herald
#

I’m doing that, I’m now in the ISO, just waiting for it to load

#

Sorry if I’m being stupid

#

@old mortar okay it’s loaded

old mortar
frozen herald
old mortar
#

@frozen herald now chroot

frozen herald
old mortar
#

As chroot is different if you use ext4 or BTRFS

frozen herald
#

I use ext4 I believe

old mortar
#

Use lsblk -f

#

That will tell what filesystem you use

frozen herald
#

Yeah ext4

old mortar
#

.aw chroot

bitter sleetBOT
old mortar
#

If ext4, just mount the root and esp

old mortar
frozen herald
#

I mounted the partitions @old mortar @old mortar

old mortar
#

@frozen herald that's not mounting

old mortar
#

Connect to the internet first

frozen herald
#

Then I wrote the mount command

#

This one

old mortar
frozen herald
#

i’m stupid

#

What am I supposed to do

old mortar
#

Start over

frozen herald
#

Reboot the iso again?

old mortar
# frozen herald

Also why are you installing DHCP?
Just connect to the internet

old mortar
frozen herald
old mortar
#

Then once booted, connect to the internet

old mortar
#

The iso has everything to connect

frozen herald
#

Okay, I'm rebooting

old mortar
#

@old mortar scroll up

frozen herald
#

First I connect to the internet, and then?

old mortar
#

Which is not required

old mortar
#

If using WiFi, use iwctl

#

Ethernet should work ootb

frozen herald
#

Wouldn't it be easier to just check if I have an IP address?

old mortar
frozen herald
#

Because when I mounted, you told me to not do it to the same paths, so what was I supposed to do rather than what I did

old mortar
bitter sleetBOT
old mortar
#

Tells how

old mortar
#

Which depends on your system

frozen herald
old mortar
#

Idk what's your mounting point for your ESP

frozen herald
#

Neither do I tbh

old mortar
#

Some mount it to /boot/esp
Others to /boot

old mortar
#

If Archinstall, it mounts to /boot

frozen herald
#

Archinstall

old mortar
#

Then your esp has to be mounted to /mnt/boot

frozen herald
#

So for my first partition, which I believe is for my ESP, I do /mnt/boot?

#

"# mount /dev/nvme0nXpY /mnt/boot"

old mortar
#

The ESP always is the FAT32 partition

frozen herald
#

Yeah, my first partition

frozen herald
#

And for my other two?

old mortar
#

Then you mount your root to /mnt

#

Idk what's the other partition you have

#

But you only need your root and ESP to be mounted

frozen herald
#

The /mnt/boot/ mount point doesn't exist

old mortar
#

My guess is that you asked archinstall to make a separate home partition

frozen herald
old mortar
#

As you should be the one knowing

old mortar
frozen herald
#

@old mortar Is the root partition usually the one that's smaller than your larger partition?

old mortar
frozen herald
#

Is this a way to mount your root?

old mortar
old mortar
#

Then arch-chroot /mnt

#

From there you're inside your system and do what @old mortar says

frozen herald
#

Okay did everything, now installed the dhcp

#

@old mortar Thanks, you've been a big help

simple houndBOT
#

Luvenshantzen ⭐ received a thank you cookie!

frozen herald
#

@old mortar After I install the dhcp, do I just exist the arch-chroot?

old mortar
#

It should not have red colors but be white

#

That means you're in chroot

#

Then do the changes you need on your system to fix the issue

#

Once done, run exit and reboot commands

#

Then check if your internet works

frozen herald
old mortar
#

Read the rest I typed

frozen herald
#

I have exited and rebooted, the problem with the internet seems to be still happening though

old mortar
#

But at least you know how to chroot

frozen herald
