@mental garnet reboot and pick fallback
switch ttys and systemctl status sddm
i can disable sddm through bin bash cuz i dont have AUR or cant intall ttys cuz im either stupid or stupid
what?
@pliant pagoda systemctl disable sddm
sudo pacman -S ly
sudo systemctl enable ly
reboot
he doesnt know where to run those commands in the first place
.aw getty
@mental garnet switch to tty2
i disabled systemctl so i habe terminal?...
no, ctrl+alt+f2
sddm*
done
switch to tty2, login, and then run:
systemctl status sddm
lme try this first
don't do that
ly is not the default display manager for kde
worked tho-
send an image
as of 6.5 plasma-login replaces sddm. https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/issues/91
ly is kinda ugly ngly
it's a tui display manager
you can change the config to have animations
just wanna use the same greeter as from archinstall
archinstall gives you a display manager based on which profile you pick, it's not a hard requirement
@mental garnet mkdir -p ~/.config/ly && cp /etc/ly/config.ini ~/.config/ly
is there any way to use it with manual install?
use what?
the same greeter as archinstall gives on kde
sddm is going to be replaced with plasma-login soon
oh ok
archinstall gives sddm
@mental garnet do this, then change the config
it depends.. you could have troubleshooted the issue if you had listened to me in the beginning of this thread
install of installing a separate display manager
i mean i cant open second ttyl on that screen
yes you can
this one
i tried
.aw getty
if you "tried" then how did you install ly?
or enable it?
what do you mean you cant open tty2 if you just did the above
cant on the "_" screen
installed ly with modifying grub entry
ctrl+alt+f2
to make it biottin /bin/bash
no don't do that
why tho
that's not how you install it
are you trolling
If you need to switch between ttys after Ly's start you also have to disable getty on Ly's tty to prevent "login" from spawning on top of it
i boot into /bin/bash and pacman -S ly
no?
systemctl disable getty@tty2.service
what?
i lirerally explained
you put that in your grub config?
in grub you press e
no
@mental garnet
okay
those are commands you run within linux, not within grub
look, you modify grub entry to add init=/bin/bash at the end of linux line
no
do not do that
Why not?
and it boots you into linux console
yep
it's unnecessary
If their TTY is not working, then switching their init is fine
what?
sddm is hogging tty1
/bin/bash is a shell
They switched their init to bash, giving them a command line, and disabled SDDM from there
that's unnecessary
they can switch to tty2 and do it there
i enabled sddm so i can record video
?
They said they tried switching to a different TTY and it didn't work
who needs sddm for recording videos?
Maybe they were confused, but anyways it doesn't matter now
because they hit the wrong key combination probably
see?
so i can show
You might need to press the fn key as well
disnt work
@pliant pagoda
fn key for laptops is needed
all of that is unnecessary
how did they switch their init?
did they chroot in?
if they were chrooted in they can run the commands there
lemme record
the video above shows they failed to switch ttys
here
By setting the kernel parameter init=, you can change the init to something besides systemd, such as a bash shell
that is unnecessary
read the above
to switch it in the first place they need to be chrooted in
since they are unable to switch ttys
as seen in the above videos
if they are already chrooted in they can run commands from there
its not THAT hard bruh
just chroot in
it exists for a reason
That would take longer though
But you also need to boot into the ISO
my iso is taking long to get ready
Switching the init requires pressing a key, typing a short phrase in, and then pressing another key
yep
You can try another function key like F[3-6] if you want and already haven't tried that
its all probably cuz i didnt install drivers tho
What GPU do you have?
If Plasma is working fine with ly though, I don't think that should be an issue
RTX 3050 Laptop GPU(GA107M)
just ly is ugly
and hard to customize
No that's fine, I just mean that your drivers are probably fine if Plasma is properly booting up
If you want to check though, you can try running nvidia-smi from within Plasma or some other command line
well i mean on archinstall it worked fine
i mean i didnt install at all i thought i will install at the system
in the system*
Oh, I see
Then for now, disable SDDM, and then from the command line, install the nvidia-open package
@mental garnet
