i run Linux on an external SSD on my laptop, and my laptop has an internal SSD running windows, so i "double boot". When I boot into windows and unplug the SSD while windows is running, the next time I boot and try to select the external SSD it's gone from the boot options in the BIOS, for no reason at all, even reinstalling grub doesn't work. does anyone know why

Distro: any distro i run lol

You have a separate ESP on the external ssd right?

#

(Not reusing windows ESP)

Look at the current esp and see if there's those paths mentioned in my screenshot
