#Repairing pacman/kde/arch linux
63 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I have the command with what I deleted in the photo. Konsole still works.
Otherwise I think I screwed up and deleted Dolphin, firefox, and a lot of other things from my kde desktop environment by mistake.
How should I go about repairing arch linux/pacman/kde?
@viral stag don't do that
reinstall those packages
then tell us the real problem
The packages that I went to delete in that command in the photo were conflicting or something. Because it didn’t recongnize/trust the keys from some people
reinstall those
then pacman -S archlinux-keyring
Otherwise I just ran pacman -S dolphin firefox kde-applications and it seems like the icons are back and et cetera
remove kde-applications
pacman -Rns plasma
pacman -S plasma-desktop
pacman -S terminal
I’m guessing that is the proper way to reinstall?
@viral stag no, this is to remove kde programs you don't need
will my kde preferences be saved, or would I need to reconfigure things
What is the best way to deal with these conflicts?
Am I supposed to remove things I don’t want manually? Or with pacman?
pacman
pacman -Rns plasma-meta
that doesn't seem to exist
pacman -Rns kde-applications
well thank you for helping me through my troubles
did that work?
I think it was able to achieve my goal of repairing kde and reinstalling everything
did you remove those kde packages?
yeah everything was removed, so it is only the minimum packages now
pacman -Q |grep plasma
then it is just reinstalling dolphin, firefox, etc
pacman -Q |grep kde
I also have to reinstall discover
remove plasma-activities
It seems to remove a lot of things, is this desirable?
yes, then pacman -S plasma-deskstop
gotcha
It appears like it will install plasma activities again
even if I select ttf-joypixels instead
then keep it
then sudo pacman -Qttdq | sudo pacman -Rns -
I'm guessing plasma-activities is considered bloat?
this removes orphan packages
then pacma -Qm > aurpackages.txt
then upload that here please
then reboot
peazip-qt-bin 9.8.0-1
peazip-qt-bin-debug 9.8.0-1
I downloaded peazip to have something similar to 7zip on windows. When I was attempting to do pacman -Suy, it was asking if I wanted to replace peazip with extra/7zip
say yes
the orphaned packages were argon2-20190702-6 amd libomxil-bellagio-0.9.3-5
shoot, I didn't go through with this command, and I just closed konsole
restart/shut down in the start menu dont work, so I suppose I will have to use the power button
alternatively, another issue I have is that I can't properly dual boot. I had a fresh windows 10 installation (with secure boot), but I need to disable secure boot for rEFInd to show up
would it be best to resetup arch linux to get it added to secure boot?
why use secureboot?
When I was installing Windows, I must've accidentally had it on (which is the default for laptops iirc)
you don't need it, if you don't use things that need secureboot to be enabled
unless my university needs it when I am writing exams or etc, I don't know of any uses for secureboot
however when I leave it off, I have to enter the 60 digit recovery key to boot into windows
