I am trying to make the move to arch linux from windows 11 on my rog flow x13 laptop. I have followed the installation guide extensively however i continue having the problem of not being able to boot to the USB stck. I already have used rufus to do the iso thing where it puts the iso into the USB 3 times. I made sure to boot into the bios and disable secure boot, i added the usb stick as a bootable path from the bios as well and im still unable to boot to it. Any idea of what could be happening? Has someone had this problem as well? Does any app stops from booting to a USB stick (Im sure there is none, but just in case0?

have you tried to boot from that USB drive on another device?
make sure its not the USB that is bad
also you have experience with linux right, as its not easy for newcomers to use arch (not that its hard to use arch but its just quite different from windows) for example it doesnt assume what you want to do so you have to configure it a lot
also what do you mean by "not being able to boot into usb"
does it black screen? and when does it black screen if it black screens
will do have more USB laying around thanks
mikolaj_archusr received a thank you cookie!
i have no experience with linux, but i want to be able to have arch as my first exp, im aware that i will need to set it up from scratch pretty much. When i say it doesnt boot to the USB i mean that it instead boots to Windows 11, it completely skips the USB option and goes straight to windows
would you recommend any other linux distro since i dont have exp? i hear a lot about Ubuntu or linux mint
Yeah, I think that arch isn't really the right distro for firs-time linux users. Not that its not user-friendly, the issue is that it expects you to do everything yourself: set up graphical environment (by default you only have a terminal), install essential programs, update your system, etc.
I would recommend you to pick an arch-based distro, like Manjaro or Archcraft. I started with Garuda Linux, which is an arch-base distro, and I struggled a lot with it.
arch-based means its developed on top of Arch Linux.
Its pre-configured Arch Linux, essentially.
As for you bootable USB, I would recommen that you check your motherboard model and try to enter the BIOS - you can access the boot menu from there.
If you search "<your motherboard / laptop / whatever model> bios menu" online, there would be a lot of guides on how to do just that.
Usually you just spam the delete key as the computer boots up.
If you need some more assistance with picking a distro, entering BIOS or installing a distro, feel free to DM me.
awesome, appreciate the help. will send you a DM if i still have trouble
im aware of that and thats why i kinda want to be able to have arch as my first time linux system, but will look at other options
did you tried selecting usb from the bios boot mennu
yea i tried it and it still bypasses it, and boots to windows
i have my usb connected and chose it as an option and still nothing
oh
that is NOT the BIOS menu
that is the windows recovery thingy
You need to get to the BIOS
Do you have Arch flashed onto that USB drive?
yes
If so, I would heavily recommend you to install something simpler, like Ubuntu
im trying to send a vid to show whay happens but its too large of a file
anyways i go and choose usb as an option and goes straight to windows
im alr looking into other distros, hopefully its easier with something else
You chose the USB in the blue menu from the screenshot?
yes i clicked choose a device and then usb
That is the Windows recovery menu
Its not the BIOS
You already started Windows at this point

How to Boot from a USB Flash Drive/CD-ROM (Changing Boot Options)
ok i will try that, thank you so much
Let me know how it goes
its still doesnt recognize the usb drive
im going to try to partition another usb drive, hoepfully its the usb drive
How are you flashing the disk image into the USB drive?
And what image are you using? Arch Linux installation media?
By image i mean the .iso file.
im using rufus to flash the usb and im using the latest archlinux iso file from the website
its called archlinux-2025.01.01-86x_64.iso
Can you plug in the drive, open the WIndows partition manager and show me how the partitions look like?
I wanna make sure if the USB drive isn't bad
Your rufus configuration looks fine
thats exactly how i have been flashing the usb
i followed the guide given by the arch website and looked at another guy yt vid to make sure it wasnt the config of rufus
So the USB should be fine
Do you have any other computers, laptops, PC lying around?
You should try to access the boot menu on one of them
Just to confirm the USB works
We could also arrange a video call and I could guide you in real-time if you speak English well enough
sorry abt yesterday, yes i will try another device just in case
im also able to go through a call just in case there seems to be no other way to fix it
hey so i finally got it to boot to the USB, yesterday i got some time to be able to try it on another USB with ubuntu and it booted, then i tried it with the arch USB and was able to boot it as well
thank you very much for your help, i highly appreciate it 🫶
neat, I'm glad you finally solved it
