#Archlinux sway wayland + Huion Kamvas Pro16, I don't understand how to make my display to work

Introduction:

Hi people, I have an issue, I have a display tablet, but I am unable to use the display of my graphic tablet. Both OpenTabletDriver and wdisplay seems to think it's a screenless tablet.
However, the pen itself works very well, I could use it as a screenless graphic tablet, but being a 15inches display tablet, the surface is kind of too big to be used conveniently as a screenless tablet (plus I kinda paid for it so...)

Context:

I am studying digital arts to become an artist, but Windows is getting broken in my computer. I had many issue and lost my datas many times, so I decided to give a try to Linux. Two weeks ago, I tried Linux Mint, but I had trouble with OTD (opentabletdriver). A friend told me I should try Archlinux and they can help me to configure it, so I gave Archlinux a try.

I really love archlinux so far, it feels so simple and reliable compared to that cancer of Win11 that keeps bloating for no reasons. And oh hell I am not going back to Windows any soon. I would take my time to learn the commands gradually as I use it, but I kinda need my tablet to work the sooner as possible.

Can someone help me?
I really just wanna be able to draw again

My settup:

Graphic Tablet:
Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k)
Resolution 2560x1440p

When I did `[ sea@archlinux ~ ]$ fastfetch`:
 - my tablet was turned on and connected,
 - both otd-daemon and OTD was running,
 - I have been able to draw on krita with my tablet's pen... except that the display on my tablet still never work

Troubleshooting:

 - I verified all my cables and make sure they are all properly connected
 - My tablet is NOT damaged
 - I have installed Open Tablet Driver and otd-daemon
 - I am very not familiar with Linux and I don't know many of the most basics commands
 - I have read `man 5 sway` many times but I don't really understand it clearly, me being unfamiliar with Linux

Please, feel free to ping me
 Thank you for the help!

I suggest using something else like a DE like kde

normal star
#

Yes, he is an advanced user of sway

swift tartan
#

Maybe it will work in kde

normal star
#

Tho he don't really understand my bug...

swift tartan
#

Ok do you have kde installed

normal star
#

I see

#

Let me check

swift tartan
#

If not then hey look on the internet and check do you like gnome look better or kde let me send a video

#

In general kde look is like windows and gnome look is like macos

#

https://youtu.be/ibuH-hGkmdI see display tablet works in a DE no issue

He made me a really cool setup with shaded transparent windows for the terminal and it's really easy to move between workspaces, I was liking it
But if it doesn't work well for artist, meh I guess

normal star
#

I will give it a try

swift tartan
#

Yeah I suggest use gnome bcz it looks good but kde looks good too it's your choice

normal star
#

Alright, I will give a try with kde

swift tartan
#

Ok if you want kde then install it like this = sudo pacman -S plasma-desktop

normal star
#

Alright

#

Also, I want to thank you for the help you are offering :3

swift tartan
#

Np

normal star
#

I have downloaded it

swift tartan
swift tartan
#

Which display manager you have?

normal star
#

I have Wayland right now

swift tartan
#

Can you send me a photo so i can see after loging out

swift tartan
normal star
#

oh it's sway

swift tartan
normal star
#

Oh sorry
I have no clues, then

swift tartan
#

Ok just logout and send a photo of your display what it's showing

normal star
#

Of my desktop before I quit sway?

swift tartan
normal star
#

Oh alright

#

My logging screen is basically a terminal

swift tartan
#

Ohh then for quality of life install sddm

normal star
#

Alright

#

Both hdm and usb

swift tartan
#

Yeah it works in windows as they said

swift tartan
#

Bro don't be too smart she is new and display manager is a good things and easy to use

#

What about typing that same line over and over again?

normal star
#

My friend is teaching me how to use terminal, I kinda like it so far
But yes I also wanna try sddm

normal star
#

I try to install sddm >~<

#

Alright

#

yes

swift tartan
normal star
#

Oh it was tunred off

#

Yes

swift tartan
normal star
#

I just turned on the tablet, made the same command and same result

swift tartan
#

Now run sudo systemctl enable sddm

swift tartan
normal star
#

I installed OTD and otd-daemon

swift tartan
#

Nope but they have to get it from aur

#

Nothing is correct

#

Why?

normal star
#

Sddm isn't installed tho

swift tartan
#

@normal star ok also install plasma-meta it's not that big of a deal

normal star
#

Honestly, I'd love sway if it can make my tablet to work without too much trouble

#

I see

swift tartan
#

@warm turret Hey how about i try to help first and you can help her letter if my help doesn't work?

normal star
#

Huion tablet has proven less reliable than OTD so far when I tried on Linux Mint

#

And yet Linux mint do not support otd

swift tartan
normal star
swift tartan
#

It's out-of date

normal star
#

yeah

swift tartan
#

2024-07-05

normal star
#

I think I installed it already

swift tartan
#

Put this and enter

normal star
#

okay I'm in

#

It worked

swift tartan
normal star
#

hmmm my tablet still have the same issue

swift tartan
#

Why

#

We can install .deb version in arch too

#

It does

#

@normal star yeah download this one

#

Also what do you see in display settings do you see 2 display?

normal star
#

It's here in my download foldier

swift tartan
normal star
#

Still, the bug is weird because on Windows and on Linux Mint the display was automatically working as a display without even instally any drivers - just the tablet that was not working

#

like to draw

swift tartan
#

yeah extrate it and then open the terminal in that folder

swift tartan
normal star
#

So maybe it's a display driver that is missing?

swift tartan
normal star
#

wait did I needed to reboot?

swift tartan
#

no

swift tartan
#

sudo pacman -S ark

swift tartan
normal star
#

How I copy/past?

normal star
swift tartan
#

and nvidia drivers installed?

normal star
#

yes, there's 4 local driver

normal star
swift tartan
normal star
#

ok

#

yes I have it

swift tartan
#

ok install the huion drivers then

normal star
#

ok it's extracted

swift tartan
#

then run sudo ./install.sh

normal star
#

Can't I do something like [ sea@archlinux ~ ]$ pc ~/home/sea/Documents too?

swift tartan
normal star
#

oh alright

#

It says terminal emulator is not set

swift tartan
#

you can set that in settings app

normal star
#

It was already set with Foot Client, I have set it with Kitty but it still saying it's not set

swift tartan
#

ok then just run the terminal and use cd to the folder

#

cd Documents/HuionTablet_LinuxDriver_v15.0.0.162.x86_64, will work i guess you don't need to put home

normal star
#

My computer just crashed and did a reboot

swift tartan
normal star
#

Yes

#

I will retry

swift tartan
#

why

#

then why did you suggest this

normal star
#

The driver?

swift tartan
#

it would have been better if she tryed installing the .deb pkg

normal star
#

The .deb pkg never really worked on Mint

warm turret
#

mint has support for wayland fyi

swift tartan
#

but i have a drawing tablet too that relies on x11 but works in wayland over xwayland or something idk

#

not display

warm turret
#

soon to be

normal star
swift tartan
#

but i think display is a separate part then the drawing surface so i guess wayland can provide the display to it

normal star
#

And yes now the Huion driver is installed and works but still no display on my tablet

swift tartan
#

mine doesn't bro

#

it needs the driver

swift tartan
#

tried that too UGEE tablet not supported

normal star
normal star
#

It worked really well on other os

#

What should I type excactly?

#

There's just one but it will be tough rn

#

I am sure it's that

#

Alright

#

Do sway works with x11 tho?

#

Aaaw

#

Alright

swift tartan
#

why do you wanna install a whole wm and setup then when they already have kde

#

bro you some elitist or something? or just dumb

#

they can just go into kde x11

normal star
#

sudo !! command saved me so much time I swear lol

swift tartan
#

just logout and run startx

warm turret
swift tartan
warm turret
#

@normal star don't install i3 just for x11, logout and pick x11 from sddm

swift tartan
#

it seems my words doesn't reach to them

normal star
warm turret
#

@normal star are you using sddm?

normal star
warm turret
#

@normal star pacman -S ly

#

sudo systemctl enable ly

#

reboot

#

pick plasma-x11 from the menu

swift tartan
swift tartan
normal star
#

I'm sorry it's just so fast haha

swift tartan
#

install ly if it's available without multilib

warm turret
#

it's in extra

warm turret
#

and install xorg-xauth and libxcb

normal star
#

Ok I am in plasma-x11

#

Still nothing

#

Huion driver is running tho

#

And the tablet works for inputs
But the output is still nothing

warm turret
#

@normal star what tablet do you have?

swift tartan
normal star
#

Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k)

warm turret
#

@normal star pacman -Q huiontablet

normal star
#

Well my display manager just works on Wayland

But Huiondriver don't detect my display again

#

it says command not found

#

I have already both nvidia lts and nvidia dkms
It says both are in conflict

#

It's already installed tho

normal star
#

I press yes?

warm turret
normal star
warm turret
warm turret
swift tartan

#

I am not sure

normal star
swift tartan
#

pen is working in arch

warm turret
warm turret
swift tartan
normal star
swift tartan
#

you don't need bleding edge distro for art actually it's better if you use a stable distro

normal star
#

Still don't work

swift tartan
normal star
#

oh right

normal star
warm turret
#

or pop-os

normal star
#

Sadly, it still don't work

swift tartan
#

what if it doesn't work in wayland why waste time?

normal star
#

I wanna try stuff

swift tartan
#

then why they see display in mint?

normal star
#

It alreasdy been 2 weeks I have too many issues to draw in peace, it's not a day of more or less that will change much things at this point

swift tartan
#

driver can't fix a broken port

swift tartan
normal star

Tomorrow I'll also check if my cables aren't the impostors

swift tartan
#

normal star
#

normal star

#

Sadly, I did not found a solution to stay on Sway

warm turret
#

@normal star try the git version of sway

normal star
#

The git version?

normal star

Hi, before starting to reset Arch or to install a new OS, I have realized that my BIOS is just simply inaccessible.
I just have a black screen with a cursor completely in top left of the screen that doesn't react to anything
I already tried systemctl reboot --firmware-setup but it was not a success

#

I guess some people already had this trouble, I will check for similar issue in the previous threads

normal star
#

It's an Acer Nitro-5
The computer's bios is UEFI

Good news: I have recovered the access of BIOS by removing the battery and a lot of hard reboots during POST

Bad news: my ssd card has died
