Kitty terminal transparency isn't working

Im just trying to make my Kitty terminal have a transparent background, but nothing seems to do it.
(prob not important but i use EndeavourOS with i3)

idk how i just forgot the most important part, but i"ve tried the following 2 ways of enabling transparency. This:
background_opacity 0.5
dynamic_background_opacity yes

and this

background_opacity 0.5 transparency = yes
