Hey all, new install here on new hardware. I have a laptop with a 4080, and I'm trying to get it configured. if I try to log in with ly I get a black screen with an _ in the top left corner. if I try lightdm, I get the same thing BEFORE login...and I can't ctrl-alt-f# to another terminal. the only way out of that is to arch-chroot from usb and disable lightdm and enable ly. I'm pretty sure there's something I've probably screwed up in my nvidia/x configuration but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. I also can't connect the machine to the internet until I can at least get my web browser visible because internet here requires portal login. Xorg.log.0 shows a message block about no modes requested and failing to connect to an acpi demon...I can post log file here if anyone wants to see it.

I just did the steps here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus#Use_NVIDIA_graphics_only
still no fix
in journalctl I see ucsi_acpi usbc000:00: error -ETIMEOUT: PPM init failed at some point...that often appears over the ly login screen
yup, I'm at a loss
nvidia tainting kernel?
installed xorg-xinit so I can try startx....nothing it tries to launch, generates a new log and then exits
heres my Xorg log from running startx if anyone sees anything that jumps out
