#[SOLVED] i915 drivers have hard freezing on any kernel 6.9.3 or above

Simply put, my Arc A380 was working flawlessly until kernel 6.9.3, where I went from 100 fps average on most games I play to 100 spf.

I have tried every single kernel since then, and it has the exact same issue. I have currently been stuck on the LTS kernel, which is "tolerable" but has notably worse overall performance.

I am certain it is the i915 driver, as running the system on the xe driver has no freezing or crashing. If the performance with the xe driver wasn't worse than just running integrated graphics, I would be fine with using it instead.

Is there any suggestions you guys can think of to resolve this? Although I can "tolerate" using the LTS kernel, many of Arc's performance improvements came in kernel 6.8.

@frigid solar open source drivers or prop?

Ever since 6.9.3 I've been stuck on the LTS kernel due to anything newer on Arch resulting in anything gaming or graphically intensive being impossible

@frigid solar the stock kernel just got updated, try it again

frigid solar
#

I'll try again when I get to my PC in an hour or two but given it's been 8 versions in a row I'm not too optimistic that another kernel update on its own will fix things

Still having the same freeze as I have with every single kernel newer than 6.9.2

@frigid solar even the zen kernel?

cunning jetty
#

@frigid solar also linux-hardened?

Reverting to any kernel sub-6.9.2 or using the LTS kernel works

#

and all the freezes are tied to a long string of i915 errors

#

If I didn't need some of the performance increases provided by the 6.8 kernel I'd happily stay on the LTS kernel

#

It's something they did to i915 starting with 6.9.3

#

Or at least I'm pretty sure it was 6.9.3

Thing is I think it may be on my end because apparently others are having zero issues with Arc on Arch

#

And I'm trying to figure out what it is I could do

Fair enough

#

Thanks for the quick reply btw lmao

#

But yeah I want this to actually be resolved because Arc on kernel 6.6 is kinda fucking slow

cunning jetty
#

@frigid solar try the new kernel now

frigid solar
#

Wait did it just get another update today or something

cunning jetty
#

yes

frigid solar
#

Mmkay I'll check when I get to my PC in like an hour or two

#

That said I'm not too optimistic given that literally every kernel since 6.9.3 has had the issue

@frigid solar

frigid solar
#

Okay yeah I'll go ahead and test when I get to my PC, although I'm not optimistic

Well fun news for me, no fucking clue when it happened but it's finally fixed on the main kernel

#

Still wonder what that "atomic_commit_failed" error was but it's gone now if anyone reads this
