if i boot up a game. for example elden ring. it is really laggy and lags my whole pc. sometimes even freezing my whole pc. i have to unplug if that happens. eventually the game does become normal again and everything turns to normal. but it can still freeze after that. this does not happen on windows at all. could this be because my arch is on a hard drive?

it's because you are installed to a hdd
@hidden raptor
whats that?
yes?
are you able to provide a log of the game running or a screen shot of a system monitor during the game lagging?
@hidden raptor
i am unable to do that right now but when i can i will
i am still unable to. but i do remember it taking up 80% of ram and 100% swap once (only once though)
it was like 13 gigs of ram i think
i have 16 gigs of ram though
is that not good
also i am able to do the system monitor thing
give me a moment
if the swap is filling up then you are out of ram
cached data will also be in your ram beside your active applications
ok so here it is without elden ring open
just
firefox (1 tab)
discord
kitty
prism launcher
konsole
kwrite
obs
and gnome system monitor
now let me boot up elden ring
now i havent tested this with other games yet. so there is a chance of it being a bad elden ring update
i havent played elden ring so i dont know the normal ram usage
i also dont know cuz i never checked but it sure as hell wasnt this slow and causing my pc to freeze before
in title screen
it already freezed my pc a tiny bit when i went into loading screen
ram usage still the same
odd
its not as slow this time
its rlly inconsistent
and when it is laggy
it does go away
wtf
can you show the system monitor again?
... solved
