left snow
#

have you regenerated your initramfs

left snow
#

does your initramfs fit onto that

#

I would be surprised if it does

indigo jasper
left snow
#

I'm pretty sure it tells you that when generating the initramfs

#

is this a fresh install

indigo jasper
#

Yeah idk how to check that

#

Yeah

left snow
#

boot into the installer and redo the initramfs regeneration step of the install

#

(you'll have to do the mounting and chroot as well since that's necessary for it)

indigo jasper
#

okay ill try and ill let you know

left snow
#

since it's a fresh install it's probably easiest to just redo the whole install to increase the space on the boot partition

indigo jasper
#

Bc i did the partition again snd it same codes

I still don't know what you mean

#

for what iso to go into and where

indigo jasper
#

the storage

left snow
#

no that... doesn't help

#

okay hold on

indigo jasper
#

okay

left snow
#

I didn't realise you were using archinstall

indigo jasper
#

oh

#

what did u guys do to instal l

left snow
#

archinstall is the name of a script

indigo jasper
#

oh

left snow
#

it's not the traditional way of installing arch

indigo jasper
#

i was following the guide

left snow
#

did you just reinstall everything

indigo jasper
#

yeah

left snow
#

how much space did you give the boot partition

indigo jasper
#

57

#

thats the amount it allowed me to even though i had 200

#

57gb

left snow
#

for a boot partition?

indigo jasper
#

yeah

#

for this right

left snow
#

I wouldn't know

#

running dualboot is inherently more complicated, the user must know more stuff about their system

indigo jasper
#

Want me to list the things i hav?

left snow
#

no that's not what I mean

#

I was referring to knowing what partitions should contain what

indigo jasper
#

oh

left snow
# indigo jasper

it looks like you reserved 57 gb of space where you intended to install arch on but this isn't what I'm asking

#

it doesn't mean you put the multiple partitions arch would have onto that space

#

I assume you're booting with gpt and uefi?

#

in this case you would typically give arch at least two partitions, boot and root

indigo jasper
#

yeah using a usb

left snow
#

so I need to know how big the boot partition is to rule out the problem that the initramfs isn't fitting on it

indigo jasper
#

do u want to hop on a call so im able to stream

#

?

left snow
#

the guide you sent creates the boot partition at 7:35

#

are you booted into the arch iso

#

show lsblk

indigo jasper
#

it doesnt let me even get to arch

left snow
#

?

indigo jasper
#

once i press install arch linux it sends me to a black screen
initramfs unpacking failed invalid magic at start of compressed archive
/dev/root: can't open blockdev

left snow
#

wait so this was with the arch installer the whole time

#

not with an arch installation

indigo jasper
#

yeah

left snow
#

okay should have said that at the start

indigo jasper
#

i thought that was what u were guiding me with

left snow
#

not at all

#

reflash the ISO

indigo jasper
#

oh

#

ive tried it 3 times

#

it still shows the same ones

left snow
#

then I'm out of ideas

indigo jasper
#

oh

left snow
#

is it the newest iso

indigo jasper
#

yeah

#

6/01/24

left snow
#

that caused some confusion

indigo jasper
#

oh sorry

left snow
#

all you could try is using another usb or switching boot mode between uefi and bios but those might not help
