@ripe atlas @lapis needle @pixel cm'here dammit

#

@formal turret

ripe atlas
#

i'm willing to

#

just keep tagging

#

@formal turret

#

@lapis needle

#

nekro has do not disturb on

lapis needle
#

im here

ripe atlas
#

so he wont see the highlight

#

oh finally

lapis needle
#

@formal turret how is it going?

formal turret
#

done

ripe atlas
#

remove the thread

formal turret
#

i think everything is working

ripe atlas
#

this is ridiculous

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

but glad its working and glad we could help

#

but you need do installt he new nvidia

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

i mean we told him how

#

maybe he did

#

maybe using nouveau

formal turret
#

what do you mean

#

yea installed arch my self fully just

ripe atlas
#

that's what it reverts to usualy.

it's an open soruce driver

lapis needle
#

what we did was removing the old driver, now we need the new one

formal turret
#

needed abit of help with said drivers there were differeent ones

ripe atlas
#

sudo pacman -S nvidia

#

start there

lapis needle
#

^

formal turret
#

me?

ripe atlas
#

yes

lapis needle
#

you

ripe atlas
#

no one else is having nvidia problems here

formal turret
#

istalling now

ripe atlas
#

good

formal turret
#

done

#

i think

ripe atlas
#

sudo reboot now

#

all three words

#

like that

#

once he logs in we'll see what happens

lapis needle
#

lets see

ripe atlas
#

wait i forgot nvidia-utils and opencl-nvidia

#

and others

#

shit.

#

it should still boot fine.

formal vale
#

nvidia-settings too

ripe atlas
#

yeah.

#

edit this post to have the title "pixel's nvidia thread"

lapis needle
#

isnt nvidia-utils a dependency?

formal vale
#

@formal turret remove the kms hook in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (the line that doesn't have a # before it) if you or archinstall haven't already

ripe atlas
#

i forget

formal vale
#

pixel's nvidia misadventures

ripe atlas
#

yeah that title works too

#

😛

lapis needle
#

lol

ripe atlas
#

its the easiest stuff too

#

i bet something went wrong

#

bleh

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

so then it installed anyway

#

i use nvidia-dkms

#

cause i use linux-zen

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

never tried that

lapis needle
#

i do that because explicit sync

#

wayland + normal latest nvidia driver = a fucking lot of problems

ripe atlas
#

yeah.

formal turret
#

help

ripe atlas
#

what?

lapis needle
#

what happend

formal turret
#

my mouse is flashing

ripe atlas
#

i had a feeling something went wrong

#

wtf

#

your mouse is flashing?

formal turret
#

every time i boot

lapis needle
formal turret
#

my screen black

lapis needle
#

ctrl+alt+f1

ripe atlas
#

no

#

f2

#

1 is used with boot

formal turret
#

i cant

ripe atlas
#

why?

lapis needle
#

why?

formal turret
#

when put passwoed in goes to black moude flashing

ripe atlas
#

-_-

lapis needle
#

no problem, just do that

ripe atlas
#

just let it go

lapis needle
#

ctrl+alt+f2

formal turret
#

im using my vr rn

lapis needle
#

what

#

vr?

ripe atlas
#

yeah what

formal turret
#

dont hot a phonevrn

ripe atlas
#

virtual reality?

#

using that?

lapis needle
#

wtf

#

you are using discord on virtual reality?

ripe atlas
#

i mean

#

he said vr

#

and that he doesnt have a phone

formal turret
ripe atlas
#

im an expert in reading typos

lapis needle
#

omg im dying

formal turret
#

im on terminal rn

ripe atlas
#

okay type nvidia-smi like nekro said

lapis needle
#

yeah

#

do that

ripe atlas
#

you take it from here

#

i need to piss

lapis needle
#

ok

formal turret
lapis needle
#

what does it say?

formal turret
#

my driver version

lapis needle
#

can it detect your card?

formal turret
#

yea

#

it done

lapis needle
#

do you know if you are using xorg or wayland?

ripe atlas
#

no what does it say

#

tell us what it says.

formal turret
ripe atlas
#

you said your driver version. what is it

#

i wanna know

formal turret
#

550.78

ripe atlas
#

k

lapis needle
#

yeah, thats right

ripe atlas
#

hadt o be sure

#

had to*

formal turret
#

wait

ripe atlas
#

i was making sure you had the correct version of the driver installed

#

thats all

formal vale
#

none of this would have happend had archinstall hadn't been used

ripe atlas
#

i never use that

#

i hate archinstall

formal turret
#

my screen black and moude flashing

lapis needle
#

i used it twice

#

just a minute

ripe atlas
#

i know pixel, hang on

formal turret
#

k

lapis needle
#

ill be back in 10 min

ripe atlas
#

what do we think he should do?

#

because i never used archinstall

#

why is it flashing

formal turret
#

after i rebooted it started going werid

ripe atlas
#

i've never had that happen

#

i know pixel

#

while we're at it...

formal turret
formal turret
ripe atlas
#

how did it fail reboot?

formal turret
#

i forgot saidvsmthing

ripe atlas
#

thats a huge detail you left out

#

reboot

#

see it again

#

sudo reboot now

formal turret
#

what that rebotv cmd called

formal vale
#

shit's fubar

ripe atlas
#

god damn man

formal vale
#

just type reboot

ripe atlas
#

reboot now is always best

formal turret
#

watch dog broke. that what it was

ripe atlas
#

thats fine

#

thats normal

#

i get that on mine every single reboot

#

sometimes you'll see UFW's firewall rules pass

formal turret
#

it flashin rn

ripe atlas
#

i know man

#

give me a second

#

im trying to help here

#

so you mean your mouse is flashing like the light on your moue or do you mean the cursor?

lapis needle
#

im back

#

hows is it going

ripe atlas
#

scroll up

lapis needle
#

thats weird

ripe atlas
#

no its not

#

if you mean the watchdog thing

lapis needle
#

does the login screen appear normal?

ripe atlas
#

i get that on every bx i use

#

box*

#

all ryzen processors

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

oh, yeah. iit is weird.

#

it*

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

correct

#

obviously not

#

@formal turret

#

come on

#

we're trying to help

lapis needle
#

using discord through vr seems hard

#

where is pixel?

ripe atlas
#

well he's here i think

#

he was just talking

#

lapis needle
#

he is offline

ripe atlas
#

thats when he disappeared

#

i appear offline

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

eh

#

he spoke with invisible twice

lapis needle
#

that man is unpredictable

ripe atlas
#

😂

formal turret
#

im back

#

my vr died

#

@lapis needle

lapis needle
#

omg

#

where are using discord? @formal turret

formal turret
#

im using a old laptop from my brother

lapis needle
#

@ripe atlas he is back

formal turret
#

so im alr now

lapis needle
#

good good

formal turret
#

so when i boot in to lynix my screen goes black and my mouse is flashing

lapis needle
#

so, when you turn on your pc, does the login screen appear normal or it starts flashing after login?

formal turret
#

yes i think

#

yes

lapis needle
#

okaay

#

somewhere you should be able to see a selection where it says wayland or x11

#

you should be using x11

formal turret
#

its fully black and only mouse is flashing

formal turret
lapis needle
#

you need to choose x11

formal turret
#

idk

lapis needle
#

reboot and select x11

formal vale
#

@formal turret @formal turret append the kernel parameter nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to the linux line in grub

ripe atlas
#

you need x11

#

xorh

#

xorg*

formal vale
#

i was away for a while but this is a necessary parameter for nvidia users

ripe atlas
#

what parameter

lapis needle
ripe atlas
#

oh not

formal vale
#

nvidia_drm.modeset=1

ripe atlas
#

no

#

not for this

formal vale
#

it even helps X11

ripe atlas
#

x11 first

#

then we try it

#

if it fails, we ttry it then, it's not necessary all the time

#

no point in adding stuff that's there just to be there

formal turret
#

okay

lapis needle
formal turret
#

how do i select it

#

what is it called

ripe atlas
#

drops head

lapis needle
#

in the login screen, there should be somewhere to select

#

its literally called x11

ripe atlas
#

ugh

formal turret
#

leme check

#

wait

ripe atlas
#

yes go look please

lapis needle
#

if its gdm it should look like a gear

formal turret
#

there is only sleep restart or shutdown list users

lapis needle
#

maybe there?

#

the thing is that i dont know what is your login manager so i cant tell where it is

formal turret
#

im using a different version

lapis needle
#

maybe in the top left, like that

formal turret
#

done

#

i changed it

lapis needle
#

now login

formal turret
#

to plasma x11

lapis needle
#

good

formal turret
#

ok

lapis needle
#

does it work now?

formal turret
#

yes

#

it works

#

done i think

lapis needle
#

wayland gives a lot of problems on nvidia cards, happy to see swiching to x11 works!

ripe atlas
#

i already said to do this

#

why didnt you guys just listen to me from the beginning

#

i said it in chat

#

said do xorg

lapis needle
#

i said it too

ripe atlas
#

we're the only ones that REALLY helped anyway -_-

#

lol kidding.

#

@formal vale edit the post to "(SOLVED) at the beginning please"

#

no quotes

formal turret
#

thanks

ripe atlas
#

Yep.

#

thank nekro as well

#

we were the only ones helping

#

@formal vale edit this post name to put (SOLVED) in the beginning of this post [lease

formal vale
#

Ok i was gone for a while
@formal turret remember to append nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to your grub linux line (editable in /etc/default/grub to make permanent then do sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg)
It will provide with a better nvidia experience
And if you suspend your system a lot enable nvidia-suspend nvidia-resume nvidia-resume with sudo systemctl enable nvidia-suspend nvidia-resume nvidia-hibernate and then make the file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-power-management.conf and write options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/tmp into it and do sudo mkinitcpio -P to regenerate the initramfs

#

Prepending [SOLVED] to the thread

#

[SOLVED] pixel's nvidia misadventures

#

all info is available in archwiki

#

read it

ripe atlas
#

that doesn't always help

#

@formal vale

#

i'm in the official arch irc channel

#

you kinda gave him too many steps at once

formal turret
#

and when i use my os everything feels like laggy

#

its not a cpu over load its not ram nothing like that i think my hdd kinda sucks tbh

#

or my power supply

#

i had this same isue on windows

#

i dont really know what causes it but the responce time sucks

#

like when i boot up my pc sometimes my internet car dose not tern on
