#I've accidentally deleted every file in my /usr/include directory... how do I get them back
57 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
you should probably do that using a liveiso and pacstrap
I'm not sure what that means
how did you installed arch?
via Manjaro
ohh you are on manjaro
yes
.
do you have that usb with you, by which you installed manjaro
I do not
you would need one
the USB I previously used or
a new one
do you have a usb which have any iso flashed?
possibly, I have a few usbs floating around. I'd have to find them though. Does it matter that its specifically Manjaro though?
@heady oasis no
Reasons to not use Manjaro:
• https://averagelinuxuser.com/manjaro-review
@heady oasis any linux os will work
alright
what do you want me to do with it? After I find one
boot into it
and after that?
just mount your manjaro partition
and install the packages through pacstrap
you would need to install some package related to arch-install-scripts according to the distro you choose
then why the fuck have you got the arch tag?
you surely read #readme-support-access ?
that command is wrong by the way:
pacman -Qq | pacman -S -
I'll give you the link so you can find the correct the tag once you change the thread tag to adhere to rules of the server.
and I have no idea why you'd need to be in the live ISO for this, but it should still work for native packages, for any aur packages you'll want to be booted up as normal.
ahh this is why you're doing that. Why is @royal mantle saying the live ISO is needed?
Removal of usr directory should break the system packages right?
ohhh shit
I think he is saying it bcz, from live iso you can go into root parition and add missing packages, this could poosible using bind some crucial process
that's the stuff for compiling packages
If certain libraries are not working it's better to just pacstrap the base as it will get those libraries back
yeah you're right, sorry and thanks @royal mantle
shashwat20 received a thank you cookie!
still there's a missing flag from the command that they wanted to execute, so, once they change the support thread to have the correct tag, I'll give them the command they need
presumably what they'll need to do is get a list in chroot of their packages, which they can write to a location, then call pacstrap on the packages, question is will pacstrap preserve the installation type of the package (explicit or implicit)
unless base will be enough?
if base contains everything they need then they can just do the correct pacman command after pacstrapping that
Ig base will be enough to have a working system. After that they can boot normally and have remaining packages installed via pacman itself.
Not sure how pacman gets the list of installed packages, if it gets them via some other var directory, they can generate the PKG list and install them via pacman
Ik the command, I am not sure how pacman get that list, whether it queries the local db or reads the pacman/pkg directory
I believe it doesn’t get it from /usr/include because I renamed a file there and then reinstalled the package for the file, which put the file back there again
@heady oasis ?
Hello
have you just abandoned your improperly tagged help thread?
I have not, I’ve been busy with life?
Thank you to the people who helped me with the issue, I’m having MORE issues with Manjaro now, and I’ve decided that I’m going to nuke this and use another distro
recommend using vanilla arch
@topaz quartz sorry to have “inconvenienced” you to the point where you’re cursing me out for making a simple mistake… I dunno why you’re acting so unfriendly and rude 🙄
How do I close my ticket?
because you have the support role but you refuse to follow the support rules, they're in #readme-support-access , and I offered you help for your issue if you actually changed the tag, but instead you seem to have just abandoned the thread.
change the title to start with [abandoned] and then right click on it and select close
Right but, surely you realize there’s better ways to do that? Than to be rude?
