[RESOLVED] I needed to install the following packages:

  • gutenprint
  • ghostscript

[ORIGINAL POST]
Recently my printer and scanner stopped working after my main drive died and I had to move things to a new one. So to be clear: it was working previously. I just can't tell what I'm missing!

Note:

  • I have a Canon MX532
  • I've added the printer/scanner to the network wirelessly, using the "WPS" feature (using a button on the device, as well as my router). Not really sure how that all works, but I can ping the printer once connected.
  • I can access cups via, http://localhost:631/admin and when choosing Find New Printers I see the following Available Printers:
  • Canon MX530 series (Canon MX530 series)
  • Canon MX530 series (Canon MX530 series (driverless))
  • I can add either, but upon trying to print a Test Page, nothing happens. The job just goes to the completed list, but the printer does nothing.

Happy to share any logs from cups/etc, but thought I'd start with the above.

And sorry in advance, I'm still relatively new to GNU/Linux and Arch in particular. Thanks in advance as well 🙂

@low current is Gutenprint installed?

@edgy bramble Seems as though it wasn't; I just installed now.

#

I notice there are a lot more options when added the specific printer manufacturer now; including my specific model. I'll try this and report back ..

#

Hmm, sort of the same experience as before. Here's what the Show Completed Jobs job looks like:

yeah sorry, just came back to type, I installed ghostscript and now I'm all set

#

Sorry for the waste of time, looks like it was simply missed packages after installed on the new drive

#

I wonder what all I'm missing for the scanner now ...

that should work with the scanner now

Does cups web interface let me queue a scan? If not, I see there is a program skanlite ? Seems ok?

#

Yeah seems to do the trick. Thanks a lot for helping here. Can I mark this resolved somehow?
