@sharp dome tinker in a VM, pretty sure there’s some guide out there but because it’s your own distro, maintenance is going to be a PITA, our suggestion, stick to dotfiles, make an install script for them and be happy

You can do it on Linode for all I care VM are not limited to local hardware

They meant that they won't be using a VM and will instead use their local system directly

And that cost them their system… just saying that trying to make your own distro, while not recommended, don’t try it on your own hardware if you have an back up
