Please follow the Standard Litany when asking a question:
• What was your environment? What was your operating system, configuration?
• What did you do? What did you run or test? Where?
• What actually happened? What were the exact results, complete log contents, exact error messages?
• What did you expect? What were you aiming to achieve? What result were you looking for?
Vague or superficial questions will yield vague or superficial answers. False information leads to false solutions.
Environment - Arch installer iso
Trying to install literally any package with pacman.
Pacman throws an error saying "public keyring is not writeable"
Expected - pacman to install packages.
This is what happenes after running pacman-key --init
this is the latest arch iso
I mean if you typed "n" it will probably fix your issue but I can see why you wouldn't want to do so
it didn't
I just disabled pgp key checking as of now
(i really don't care)
I just need a usable system
Does it still give this error?
before you disabled but after you said "n"
I hope you won't run into any issue
you're not supposed to install packages to archiso tho. only to an installed, chrooted system
they most likely are unable to run pacstrap
pacman is pacman. If it isn't working, it isn't working.
It doesn't matter the install location
Try this
mount -o remount,size=2G /run/archiso/cowspace
This command makes it so changes with pacman in archiso are writable (to RAM).
pacman said something about archlinux-keyring not being writable so that's where my first response came in
it does matter as you're not supposed to install packages into archiso
but well, seems like you solved it.
well you should be able to
why does it matter when i was installing a test package to see if pacman worked?
also i don't see why you cant install packages into a live environment
bad idea. that exposes you to issues and malware
Again this is where cowspace is important
cuz the way archiso was made
it exposed me to a working system
it all gets wiped after shutdown
its fine
just saying. packages should be verified
and a system should be working
the keyring is most likely because it's the end of the month and the ISO's keyring is outdated
anyways, any comments about package verification and signature?
makes sense
i would rather have a system that has a very rare chance to have malware in it rather than not have a system at all
It has the same level of verification as any other system if the keyring check isn't disabled
you may like to make a snapshot
did this even happen on your installed system?
i have never once gotten malware on my machine
well, derp gave a reason why this happened, so it's understandable
And it's low risk already
exactly
now I think making a snapshot of the system would be good
the check was off for 5 minutes. nobody is snooping on my network to try and get access
i have nothing of value
... solved
