#Endeavour os running super slow on frequency
275 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
is this while things are running? because my processor goes down to 800MHz when stuff isn't happening
what tool are you using to find that clock speed
btop
like rn I have discord open and browser too
and see the frequency
I tried using cpupower-gui but it just resets whenever I close it
quite clearly nothing is happening right now
then why is my pc running so slow i can't identify the issue
if you're experiencing "lag" it's not the CPU
then?
I am indeed experiencing a lot of lag
I have nvidia and I had to move to endeavour from arch because when I tried installing nvidia drivers it broke
thank you
sorry 😅 I can't understand what you mean, I am a linux newbie
it isn't there
lol sorry
mhm
it's there in pacman
yeah i just prefer yay because it's shorter and has the aur, same thing
oh ok alright
da heck
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
how did you install endeavouros without the builtin stuff
wdym I installed a few packages with the installer but then didn't installed any desktop environment and then later install bspwm and my other things through the tty
ah
give me a friggin second
ok mam 🫡
while you're waiting look at my pronouns lmao
did you run eos-packagelist "BSPWM Edition" --install when you installed that wm
oh no
if not, do so now
just a simply used sudo pacman -S bspwm sxhkd nitrogen etc
...
Too few arguments for command note!
Usage: .note <name>
what
ngl gnome is much much better than any other distro when it comes to these thigns
yay -S eos-packagelist
eos-packagelist "Desktop-Base + Common packages" --install
eos-packagelist "BSPWM Edition" --install
nvidia-inst
gnome isn't a distro
it's a wm, like bspwm
you could install that instead if you want
Oh
I mean
the gnome wm
is much better than any other wm when it comes to these things
WindowManager
when last time I installed arch linux
and then installed nvidia on it
it broke
after asking around the communities
a guy told me since I have a nvidia gpu and 11th gen intel processor
this will break my system
well that's wrong
clearly
afaik it ships with the noveau driver by default, which is ok but it's not great
have you done this yet?
wait sorry i didn't see that lemme do it quickly
you are sure that it won't break my system right?
it took me some time to customize my bspwm
these are the packages
that it's going to install
it'll un-break it, because all your eos specific things aren't installed
it won't overwrite any configuration, or at least it shouldn't
yes go ahead
I wouldn't tell you to do it if i didn't know what it did
I am following your instructions mam 🫡 I hope everything goes well
you are right
So those commands will install the packages that comes with endeavour os preinstalled right?
yes, as well as anything you might have missed with bspwm
oh alright
btw I was on pop os before and trust me everything with it went very very very well but only thing that disturbed me the most about it was the bloat and so I shifted to arch but it broke and then endeavour os
after you're done, you might also want to yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver for everyday hardware acceleration like for discord
i started with pop, went to mint, failed to do funtoo right, and then here i am at eos
eos?
the person who encouraged me to use linux
that person was using eos
can I ask one thing?
Ik it will be weird but am just curious
How do you know a lot? I mean people around this server really do know a lot, There was someone who helped me out a loottttt with endeavour os customization
how long have you been using linux?
I've used it for a while and become familiar with the difficulties and tools
oh
when in doubt, the arch wiki still applies to endeavouros
eos is just extra safeguards and ease of use around arch
it does? tbh i see a lot of things on arch wiki that I don't understand and then I feel like not doing anything the wiki tells me to
so it's basically arch?
and that's how shit gets broken
if you don't follow instructions completely without knowing why you're doing it, you're doing it wrong
idk if this is offensive but arch wiki installation sucks
i did everything arch wiki told me to
like everything
and it didn't told me one thing about adding users
that I need to add my user to wheel
it's certainly not for the faint of heart
eos just does it all for you, so I've never bothered to learn that bit
and after the full installation I realize that I can't enter my os
I wanna check out eos
eos is endeavouros you goof
no lol it's just shorter to type
but I use lxappearance for customizing my os
nothing changes as far as i know, it's a different implementation of it
oh alright
after this I need to install uh
that command you gave me right?
yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver
nvidia-inst?
oh no that command
both really
yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver
what do you mean track? like how?
yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver nvidia-inst
just add it to the list of things to install
then run it
oh right you already installed nvidia-inst
well even if you did add it to that list, nothing bad will bappen
cool
chill my guy
yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver
so I should execute this now right ?
if nvidia-inst is already done, sure
install the intel stuff first so you don't have to reboot twice
yes yes after that
but yes you will need to restart in order for the drivers to work
ok
I will give you the report after that
WAIT WHAT
WAYLAND?????
I am on x term something
what did i say about chill
oh
alright then
btw if I would have done normal endeavour install
i wouldn't had to do these things right?
because trust me even firefox lags a lot
and I have to do my classes every morning
probably not
you're using the kernel i915 driver on the intel iGPU right now, which is why it's dogshit slow
the intel driver you're installing now is much better
is it true that it is very compatible with nvidia?
like it's very easy to install nvidia on it?
I've heard of it but I forget what sets it apart
if you're thinking of switching, I would recommend against
oh
you already have what you need here, no need to break things again
it is easy to install nvidia drivers on eos, you're doing it right now
which driver for intel am I installing right now though?
oh lol alright
xf86-video-intel, plus the hardware acceleration libraries
oh
alright then
by the way which wm are you using
it's taking pretty long ngl 😅
i use Cinnamon, a variant of gnome I think
I have heard about it
omg my pc is lagging so much
oh
its running dkms install
leave it while it's working
ok
yeah dkms do be like that for a bit
alright
by the way
if you don't mind can you please tell me where are all the these commands for installing nvidia and acceleration libraries are ? 😅 in future if I will need them like by any chance so
endeavouros website FAQ i believe
which is what?
Plan: Fate
executing yay -S xf86-video-intel libva-intel-driver intel-media-driver
Plan: Fate == Reboot and hope everything fine
🥲
done
so far
everything is normal
lag isn't there though
so
can we say
that
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
can we say that?
idk a shit if it is installed but these things weren't there
yep
ig it's installed
I guess I should start worshiping you now
🙇
success
i would rather you didn't
what does btop say now
or whatever this was
yeah that
so what happened?
woah the packages are not 1 thousand
wait lemme check something
yep the ram usage is pretty low still
???
everything good?
what happened is that you're now using drivers that can actually display your screen in reasonable time
so it won't look like crap
yup
you are a goddess thank you or else I would have broken up this os too
lol
run dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null to stress your cpu with 1 thread and see what your frequency goes up to
alright
yep it does
I mean the thread's frequency does go up
The lag/freeze is still there
it's like whenever I move from one window to another or when something is opening or when I am typing
