#how do I update discord on Arch?
61 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
how did you install discord?
if you just used pacman then you can just run sudo pacman -Syu
It says manual update required
yes, but where did you install discord from?
From the aur
what aur helper do you use, if any?
run yay -Syu
It still didn’t update it
It’s still on version 26
0.26
Wait I found something
perhaps the aur version is too old, is there any particular reason why you got it from the aur?
I thought getting stuff from the aur was the best way to get apps
@spark wharf
download and extract this
run "Discord"
it will auto-update, then you can use your regular one
fixed it for me
Thank you
Yes it does
great
I guess I am still trying to get my bearings with arch.
So I just thought using the aur was the best option.
oh god damn it
Disable the Discord update check
That’s the way to go tbh
Iirc the flatpak is also usually up to date
Thank you. Now we're good.
If something is in the official repos, then no, it typically isn't
What AUR package did you install?
Yea, I thought discord was in the main repos?
@spark wharf so my fix didn't work?
I don't see why running the discord binary locally would update the systemwide one
wait I'll test since I'm still running the local binary
alright, it really does not work
another fix is to move /home/<user>/.config/discord/0.0.27/ to 0.0.26
(once the local binary has been run)
Or you could just change one config file line and never see the message again
yeah that's better
it usually isn't lmao /mn
discord is fukd on arch
idk why
i had so many issues with it
even when installing from aur it sometimes requires these "manual upgrades"
which don't work properly half the time
and discord also can't be opened from the system tray anymore
if you have one like trayer / tint2 or polybar
so you have to entirely kill discord to open it
