this seems to be somewhat related
did you installed a browser, right?
yes
sorry for the long wait, i've gotten it to work by launching discord and github with ">/dev/null 2>/dev/null" launch options after
somewhat of a bandaid fix
yeah, i've a few subproblems though
which i'm not sure if i would open a thread for
getting this in xfce application finder even when i dont edit the launcher, am able to open discord perfectly fine through it however
and github desktop opens something not understood by firefox
firefox understood the address, but am now getting this
i dont fully understand this solution; how would i make other applications use the wrapper?
so, you are using xfce for desktop environment, right?
i think it is good to try usual solution first
try do xfce4-settings-manager in your terminal as root, if you have it
i.e., # xfce4-settings-manager
i think you can do it by putting a script with the same name as the original binary at the location of the original binary, and call the original binary from that script

i have this startxfce4 in my .xinitrc; should i follow through with the rest of the configuration
i dont think so
then, can you start xfce4-settings-manager as your non-root user? (i mean, your main user)
yes
thats nice
is there any reason it doesn't work as superuser?
i dont know exactly reason, but
i think you can use it as root if you entered your desktop as root
i mean, login to xfce login manager as root
its good to try it if xfce4-settings-manager dont work for your non-root user
i mean, there will be settings for default app
xfce4-settings-manager ->Personal-> Preferred Application
did you already set it?
?
yea
default browser works fine
nice
so, your problem solved?
or are there any others?
i still have this issue
same with the github desktop one, but i think these are different than the original so i dont know if it would be best to discuss them here or in a new ticket
both fine but make a new ticket would be helpful for other dudes to help you
i'm reading through this solution again and am confused, why would we have our wrapper be in /usr/local/bin/? how would we use the wrapper opposed to the original binary
