When opening steam, it doesn't crash right away.
Steam worked 2 days ago and I have not updated in the mean time, now however I'm having issues.
I have tried updating and rebooting, the issue however seems to be persistent.

It seems to work in desktop mode (I got Witcher 3 running).
Then I closed the game and opened Steam in big picture mode and after pressing run on the game it crashed right away.

can you run steam via terminal and show output?

#

also what gpu?

steep lodge
#

Gtx 1080 (edit: sorry xD)

hallow ginkgo
#

saying "gtx 1080" would suffice..
latest driver? which one exactly? (open, dkms, proprietary ?)

NVIDIA-SMI 525.78.01 Driver Version: 525.78.01 CUDA Version: 12.0

#

nvidia 525.78.01-1

#

hallow ginkgo
#

#

also run sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and show whats in MODULES and HOOKS (the ones without #)

steep lodge
#

MODULES=()
BINARIES=()
FILES=()

okay fair I've tried reading a bit and I cant figure out where to put nvidia_drm.modeset=1

hallow ginkgo
#

after quiet

steep lodge
#

okay what about mkinitcpio.conf?

#

in modules

hallow ginkgo
#

add nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm

#

and then run sudo mkinitcpio -P

#

and watch if it errors

steep lodge
#

Does there also have to be something in hooks?

hallow ginkgo
#

dont forget this part tho

#

or you will have issues after updating nvidia

#

unless you are fine with running sudo mkinitcpio -P after every update

steep lodge
#

do I need to run a command to register the hook?

hallow ginkgo
#

no, just create this as wiki says

steep lodge
hallow ginkgo
#

you have no space left on your bootsector

#

how large is it?

#

it should be 300MB at least

steep lodge
steep lodge
#

it seems that my boot sector is only 200 mb

#

i dont remember setting it that low

hallow ginkgo
#

can you check whats in it?

#

maybe it has some junk

#

unless you can resize it

steep lodge
#

well i cant just resize it?

#

That would interfere with the other partition, right?

hallow ginkgo
#

remove nvidia_uvm from modules and try again maybe? (this one is reponsible for encoding)

steep lodge
#

two seconds

#

I had to move FOUND and $RECYCLE.BIN to grub-mkconfig

hallow ginkgo
#

?

steep lodge
#

else i didn't have enough space

hallow ginkgo
steep lodge
#

me neither

#

anyway big picture mode still crashes but the witcher 3 launcher appeared

hallow ginkgo
steep lodge
#

i dont use proton with the witcher 3

hallow ginkgo
#

why not

steep lodge
#

it not necessary

#

it runs fine out of the box

hallow ginkgo
#

can you try using proton tho?

steep lodge
#

sure gimme 2

#

I think its big picture which is the problem

#

i need to enter big picture so i can use a controller in-game

hallow ginkgo
#

try it

#

without it i mean

#

if it crashes
