Hey can someone help me? I messed up and now I can't boot my Linux
I am now in chroot but I'm getting this error

lapis canopy
#

what does it say

turbid pendant
#

One sec

#

Name my name?

turbid pendant
waxen kernel
#

Might be free

#

lsblk -o name,free

turbid pendant
waxen kernel
#

Name of a device

#

Like nvme0n1p6

turbid pendant
#

Ohh my bad

waxen kernel
#

Your also missing the dash before the o

turbid pendant
#

😞kind of sleepy pretty late

#

Unknown column

waxen kernel
#

Well your system is still working for now come back in the morning. Probably get some more experienced people in

turbid pendant
#

Hmmm alright

lapis canopy
#

lmao

lapis canopy
turbid pendant
#

Yea yea he explained it

lapis canopy
#

again, the command is lsblk -o name, fsavail

lapis canopy
#

free might be a thing but i cant check

turbid pendant
#

Shows the same

#

Unknown column

lapis canopy
#

lsblk -f then?

turbid pendant
#

That works

lapis canopy
#

thats why it errored

turbid pendant
#

Wait then what do I use

#

that's the name of the device right

lapis canopy
lapis canopy
lapis canopy
turbid pendant
#

💀sorry mb

lapis canopy
#

hm

#

huh, 4.6?

#

thats pretty weird

turbid pendant
#

My Linux partition is 30gb

#

I always had free space around that

#

Pacman used to work

#

My last command before this was syu

lapis canopy
#

fsavail: available space left on the file system

turbid pendant
#

Ohhh okok

#

Then why does it say not enough space

lapis canopy
#

im not sure

#

what if you lock it manually though

turbid pendant
#

Also I tried this as well

lapis canopy
#

sudo touch /var/lib/pacman/db.lck

turbid pendant
#

Cannot touch

#

No space left on device

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Yes

hot aurora
#

btrfs fi us /

#

show me

turbid pendant
lapis canopy
#

i rember seeing something like this

hot aurora
#

do a balance

turbid pendant
#

Balance?

hot aurora
#

btrfs balance

turbid pendant
hot aurora
#

btrfs balance start -musage=70 -dusage=90 /

hot aurora
#

but eh a balance wouldnt hurt

turbid pendant
#

O so I don't use it?

hot aurora
#

also
it hink it's a quota problem actually

#

do you have quota on?

turbid pendant
#

Is there a space between 70 and -

turbid pendant
lapis canopy
hot aurora
#

btrfs qgroup show /

lapis canopy
#

try df -Hi too

#

might be inodes

#

idk

turbid pendant
lapis canopy
#

also you can clear some space up by running paru -Scc

#

or yay, or pacman if you dont have it

hot aurora
turbid pendant
turbid pendant
#

Paru is not working as well

#

Yay not found even though I had it

#

When I first entered chroot

#

Pacman was working

#

I did -Syu

hot aurora
#

have you done a balance yet?

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

It showed not enough space so i tried -Sc and -Scc as well which also worked

#

But next i tried Linux zen it showed that

#

Not enough space

#

Wait let me

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Same error

#

tux3d damn i think i have messed up bad

lapis canopy
hot aurora
#

do you still have enough space
like atleast 5 more gb to extend that filesystem into

lapis canopy
#

gtg

turbid pendant
#

No such file or directory

hot aurora
#

cus we really need to balance that metadata

lapis canopy
turbid pendant
#

Don't think i had paru

turbid pendant
#

I legit have nothing installed

#

Just 1 game which is like 2 3 gb

#

Idk what's taking up the space

hot aurora
#

parted /dev/nvme0n1 -s unit gib print free

turbid pendant
#

This does

hot aurora
#

shows free spaces in /dev/nvme0n1

turbid pendant
#

Invalid token

#

Grib

hot aurora
#

?

#

gib
not grib

turbid pendant
hot aurora
#

F

turbid pendant
#

💀why

hot aurora
#

cant extend

turbid pendant
#

Mmm

#

How much more space do i need

hot aurora
#

atleast enough for a block group to get allocated

so maybe around 250MiB-1GiB

turbid pendant
#

Wait let me see if I can yeet something

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Oh

#

I was thinking of deleting steam it's around 2 gigs

turbid pendant
#

I could load windows and make my partition smaller

hot aurora
# turbid pendant

i would ask you to delete nvme0n1p4 but that's where winrecovery resides

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Hmm

hot aurora
#

other wise youll have to move partitions
which is risky and is very bad when you get a powercut

turbid pendant
#

Laptop

#

Hmm

#

Will u be around in 7 8 hours

hot aurora
#

nah
i would be sleepin

turbid pendant
#

What's the time thete

#

There

hot aurora
#

6 am

#

havent slept yet empty

turbid pendant
#

2am here

#

Mmm we will see

#

I'm really tired right now so

hot aurora
#

i should actually go to bed
bye

turbid pendant
#

Might just yeet this distro and use something else

#

Oko

#

Gn

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Alright

#

Gonna try for a fix in the morning

#

If no luck then i will do that

daring lintelBOT
# hushed dragon .s archbased

Users of unofficial install scripts and Arch-based distributions may not make support posts using the arch tag. This comes from the Arch Code of Conduct. By installing the system in a way that you do not have control over, you do not know how your system is set up or if a script silently broke something. This can cause huge issues with support, especially if people don't know you used a script.

If you need support with your system, use the other distros tag.

hushed dragon
#

so remove arch tag and use other distros instead as this is garuda which is not arch but based on it

hot aurora
# turbid pendant

@hushed dragon
the problem is not the space for data
it's the space for metadata
it cant create anymore files since it can no longer create another block group for medata since the rest is all allocated to data

turbid pendant
#

🥲gm

turbid pendant
#

@hot aurora i tried to free up some space

#

And Pacman started working

#

But now it's stuck at this

#

Wait something happened

hot aurora
#

you shouldve done a balance b4 the pacman to fully to fix the thing 💀

turbid pendant
#

Shittt

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Now

hot aurora
#

could you show
btrfs fi us /

turbid pendant
hot aurora
#

yeah we still need to do a ballance
data is hogging all the space

#

btrfs balance start --full-balance /

turbid pendant
#

No space left on the device

#

Wtf

hot aurora
#

F

#

we really need some unallocated space for it to work

turbid pendant
#

Should I grub-mkconfig -o boot grub

#

And try to launch

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

No

#

I mainly use windows

#

All data is there

hot aurora
#

F
backup and reinstall ig

#

garuda i mean

#

not windows

turbid pendant
#

If I can get balance working again

#

I don't need to right

hot aurora
# turbid pendant

yeah but we need some device unallocated here

which you cant get by just deleting stuff

turbid pendant
#

Hmmm

turbid pendant
#

@hot aurora

#

How long does this full balance take

#

I did balance with dusage 90

#

Like 7 8 chunks relocated

#

But that was not enough

#

So i did full balance

hot aurora
#

but it should be no more than 1 hour

turbid pendant
#

@hot aurora DUDE

#

I FIXED IT

#

Let's gooo

hot aurora
#

👍

turbid pendant
#

I used space from my external hdd

#

To balance

hot aurora
turbid pendant
#

Yes

hot aurora
#

oh boy
youll have to wait more minutes
to btrfs dev remove

turbid pendant
#

I did that as well

#

I'm using Linux rn

hot aurora
#

oh good

turbid pendant
#

It worked

#

Yes

hot aurora
#

now
to prevent this from happening again
just do
btrfs balance -musage=20 -dusage=30 every week

turbid pendant
#

I can do that stuff in normal terminal right

#

Or do i need to chroot

turbid pendant
#

Oko ok

hot aurora
#

you can make a cron job or systemd service for it if you dont want to keep typing that every week

turbid pendant
#

I will do it manually

#

Don't wanna break more stuff lol

#

How do i close this

hot aurora
#

... solved
