Whenever I update a .dekstop file in gnome, it disappears from all menus, searches, and dash to dock. I want to change the Exec=line of a .desktop file but as soon as I do, poof, gone. The binary is still there of course and I can launch the program from the terminal but I would love to click on the icon. Running EndeavourOS, it's a fresh install. Application desktop file is in /usr/share/applications if that matters

There’s a command to refresh the application list after you change it
I don’t remember what it is though
Did it, the xdg refresh. Didn't work
It’s been a while but I’m pretty sure you need to copy the file to another folder for it to work
Idk if that is the folder you’ve got there
I tried editing the original and copying/editing it in .local/share/applications
no it's not that, it's that as soon as I edit it the entries disappear entirely in the dash menu and any docks or taskbars
as soon as I change it back, it returns
that's super weird
