so I plug in my 8bitdo controller and it appears if I do ls usb, but it wont't appear in my os controller settings or in my steam settings

nah, steam-devices is apparently just for the flatpak version
it is game-devices-udev that we are looking for
which you said you already had
i think this is a steam issue more than anything tbh
is the controler supposed to emulate an xbox 360 controller internally?
actually just try disabling playstation and xbox controller support on steam
and then restart steam and see if that helps at all
probably not but at this point you don't lose anything in trying

i'll see, the controller is just supposed to be designed to be compatible with xboxes and pc's right out of the box that's why I got it

ok so im bluetooth paired with this "wired" controller somehow and still nothing other than my bluetooth settings detect it
