What did you do? What did you run or test? Where?
What actually happened? What were the exact results, complete log contents, exact error messages?
What did you expect? What were you aiming to achieve? What result were you looking for?

lavish trout
#

oh i see

#

no its just

kindred schooner
#

yeah

lavish trout
#

not a thing

kindred schooner
#

snappd?

lavish trout
#

is this what you mean

kindred schooner
#

i want to get the snap store

#

yeah

lavish trout
#

so its snapd not snappd

kindred schooner
#

ah okay

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

why

kindred schooner
#

it said enter a default number=1

lavish trout
#

yes

#

thats the diff

kindred schooner
#

so i entered in 1?

lavish trout
#

you're reading

#

the aur script

#

to install snapd

#

just press

#

q

kindred schooner
#

ohhh

lavish trout
#

also why the snap store when aur has literally everyting and even more

kindred schooner
#

i need microsoft teams

#

for school

lavish trout
#

oh look its right there

#
  • just use the browser version
lavish trout
#

with paru you can always do
paru <search> to search a package

#

its v. useful

kindred schooner
#

so i can search

#

paru <microsoft teams>

#

and i will get it/

lavish trout
#

no

#

as you can see

#

its called

#

just teams in the aur

#

so you'd just type in paru teams
or paru -S teams to just install it

kindred schooner
#

is it just loading?

lavish trout
#

also if you just run paru
like paru
it will update your system for u

lavish trout
#

the aur script to install the package

kindred schooner
#

so now i enter q?

lavish trout
#

paru lets you read it so you can check for malware etc

#

yes

kindred schooner
#

it says

#

there is nothing to do

#

after i pressed q

mellow mauve
#

snapd

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

you exited out of vim then didnt actually install it

#

oh my god

#

ok moment

#

do

#

sudo vim /etc/paru.conf

kindred schooner
#

i thought you said press q

lavish trout
#

and uncomment bottom up or something like that

kindred schooner
#

now what

lavish trout
#

no

#

now

kindred schooner
#

do i q and exit

lavish trout
#

wq

#

to exit out of it

#

rerun paru teams

#

show me output

kindred schooner
#

i fucked it up

lavish trout
#

what did you do

kindred schooner
#

okay should i just uninstall arch and get linux mint or something

lavish trout
#

no

#

just do :q
and sudo vim /etc/paru.conf

kindred schooner
#

same thing

#

returns

#

the attention bit

#

i think i accidentally uncommented

#

other things

#

as well

lavish trout
#

piss off im teaching them to use paru

#

show me sudo cat /etc/paru.conf

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

did u just uncomment BottomUp or more

kindred schooner
#

my cursor won't let me click on bottom up

#

how do i move it from down

lavish trout
#

using either the arrow keys or j/k

kindred schooner
#

brb

heavy burrow
lavish trout
#

if you FUCKING SCROLLED UP

heavy burrow
#

Just run man paru smh

#

.aw aur helper

iron drumBOT
lavish trout
#

thats called information overload

heavy burrow
#

Or use yay

#

Way simpler for noobs

lavish trout
#

they are both aur helpers.
they both perform the same functions
paru is more useful than yay

#

doesnt make it good

heavy burrow
#

Noobs will use nano and yay

#

Chads will use vim or emacs and paru

lavish trout
#

no one cares

heavy burrow
heavy burrow
#

anyway

lavish trout
#

simply because
paru is infinitely more useful in this case

heavy burrow
#

Paru is too much for a noob tbh

lavish trout
#

instead of just sending them an appimage that will break in the next update

#

im teaching them how to use the aur and paru

#

@heavy burrow why is that empty emoji

#

explain yourself

#

please

#

go ahead

heavy burrow
#

@kindred schooner keep us posted ^^

#

Btw flatpak exists too

#

.aw flatpak

iron drumBOT
kindred schooner
#

so wait

#

when i use cursor keys

#

it just goes to my previous commands tho

lavish trout
#

oh

#

okay

#

okay

#

so

#

paru teams

#

show output

mellow sky
lavish trout
#

thats what i was aiming for

heavy burrow
mellow sky
lavish trout
#

i would say it nicer
except this fucking person seemingly always has to add their two cents into most if not every support threads

mellow sky
#

I think fishie just wants to teach them how to use paru, but is trying to do it in a way where they're not just leaf to 'rtm', which I don't think is a bad thing

lavish trout
#

that would be
if the aur had literally nothing in it

mellow sky
kindred schooner
#

okay

lavish trout
#

which it doesnt
also some programs implement a i cant run unless u update me feature which paru solves by updating

kindred schooner
#

tbh fishie is very helpful they always help me out

mellow sky
#

perhaps fishie and killer might consider avoiding each other for 24 hours and then have a conversation with each other about how you might both be able to collaborate in a more efficient manner in the future together when it comes to both of you existing in a support thread. Arguing in support threads is not the answer.

#

Please don't try and add more fuel to the fire.

#

@kindred schooner part of what you're seeing is a common attitude against snapd, it's an attitude I also hold, and it's one people will be willing to talk about in #tech-general if you want that discussion, but it is absolutely your right to not be interested in such arguments and use snapd anyway.

lavish trout
#

@kindred schooner
if you do paru search_term
i.e paru discord or something
it should show u a list of packages from different repos, as seen by the first section before the /, as seen below
then you write a number, for example 1 to then install the package
usually if the package if not form aur, it just installs it
if its from the aur, it will most likely show u a diff (the aur install script) which you can check for malware and/or spyware
if it does show you a diff you just press q once to exit the diff viewing thing and go ahead with installatino

heavy burrow
#

seems weird that we are discussing someone's behaviour in a support ticket.
there are better ways to go about this

mellow sky
kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

go back to the /etc/paru.conf right

#

and uncomment BottomUp
so it looks like
#AurOnly
BottomUp
#RemoveMake
etc etc

#

that will make it so that

kindred schooner
#

sorry wrong screenshot

#

i meant this

#

so it's showing aur

lavish trout
#

the results after you enter paru package
will be
3
2
1
instead of
1
2
3
which, the bottom one makes it hard to see

kindred schooner
#

do i q? out

lavish trout
#

yea here u can just press q

kindred schooner
#

to exit the diff viewing thing

#

do i hit enter as well?

lavish trout
#

what do u see rn

kindred schooner
#

thing is teams isn't installed

lavish trout
#

yeah we will get to that one moment

#

do
sudo vim /etc/paru.conf
or replace vim with whatever text editor you use

#

and remove the # before BottomUp

kindred schooner
#

kk but how it won't let me put my cursor on it

#

nvm

#

it does

lavish trout
#

x to remove on the cursor btw

kindred schooner
#

ok it's removed

lavish trout
#

its Bottom

#

with 2 t

#

i to enter insert mode

kindred schooner
#

kk fixed it

#

now what

lavish trout
#

escape

#

hit escape

kindred schooner
#

yeah did that

lavish trout
#

and :wq

kindred schooner
#

i'm exited

#

kk

lavish trout
#

okay

#

now

#

paru teams

#

and you see how its like numbered

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

yes

#

:wq enter

kindred schooner
#

i get this

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

okay :wq! enter

kindred schooner
#

kk

#

now paru teams

kindred schooner
#

now what

lavish trout
#

yes

#

okayu so

#

the number corresponds to the package

kindred schooner
lavish trout
#

so to install package 1, you'd do
1 enter and so on

#

also

kindred schooner
#

shld i install them all?

#

do i need all the packages

lavish trout
#

no

kindred schooner
#

just 1?

lavish trout
#

just whatever one you want really
id go with the teams on th ecommunity repo

kindred schooner
#

so one of these?

lavish trout
#

oh mb

#

no

#

thats teamspeak

#

if you look under the package it gives a brief description of what it is

#

go with 1

kindred schooner
#

kk

lavish trout
#

so 1 enter
it should take u to see the diff which you can just press q out of
then enter and install it

kindred schooner
#

ahhh it worked

#

TYSM!

lavish trout
#

npnp

#

for future use
you can always check the aur with paru for something

#

its usually more broad

#

i.e instead of microsoft teams its just teams
