Please follow the Standard Litany when asking a question:
• What was your environment? What was your operating system, configuration?
• What did you do? What did you run or test? Where?
• What actually happened? What were the exact results, complete log contents, exact error messages?
• What did you expect? What were you aiming to achieve? What result were you looking for?
Vague or superficial questions will yield vague or superficial answers. False information leads to false solutions.
yeah
not a thing
snappd?
is this what you mean
so its snapd not snappd
ah okay
i'm confused tho
why
so i entered in 1?
ohhh
also why the snap store when aur has literally everyting and even more
ah okay
no
as you can see
its called
just teams in the aur
so you'd just type in paru teams
or paru -S teams to just install it
is it just loading?
also if you just run paru
like paru
it will update your system for u
no its the diff you are reading
the aur script to install the package
so now i enter q?
you exited out of vim then didnt actually install it
oh my god
ok moment
do
sudo vim /etc/paru.conf
i thought you said press q
and uncomment bottom up or something like that
kk i did that
now what
do i q and exit
i fucked it up
what did you do
same thing
returns
the attention bit
i think i accidentally uncommented
other things
as well
ah okay its back now
did u just uncomment BottomUp or more
using either the arrow keys or j/k
brb
Lol you don't need snaps. Just use the aur. Snaps are bad.
its ALMOST LIKE IM TEACHING THEM TO USE THE AUR
if you FUCKING SCROLLED UP
thats called information overload
they are both aur helpers.
they both perform the same functions
paru is more useful than yay
doesnt make it good
no one cares
dang bro, that's crazy
simply because
paru is infinitely more useful in this case
Paru is too much for a noob tbh
instead of just sending them an appimage that will break in the next update
im teaching them how to use the aur and paru
@heavy burrow why is that empty emoji
explain yourself
please
go ahead
okay
so wait
when i use cursor keys
it just goes to my previous commands tho
I get that you're a little frustrated here but your language here is a little inflammatory and confrontational
thats what i was aiming for
doesn't seem very inflammatory to me
there are nicer ways to say it
i would say it nicer
except this fucking person seemingly always has to add their two cents into most if not every support threads
I think fishie just wants to teach them how to use paru, but is trying to do it in a way where they're not just leaf to 'rtm', which I don't think is a bad thing
this + they started with paru
that would be
if the aur had literally nothing in it
it's a big server, there's room for both of you here, but if this needs to be a conversation I can make a ticket for both of you so that we don't detract from helping @kindred schooner
okay
which it doesnt
also some programs implement a i cant run unless u update me feature which paru solves by updating
tbh fishie is very helpful they always help me out
perhaps fishie and killer might consider avoiding each other for 24 hours and then have a conversation with each other about how you might both be able to collaborate in a more efficient manner in the future together when it comes to both of you existing in a support thread. Arguing in support threads is not the answer.
Please don't try and add more fuel to the fire.
@kindred schooner part of what you're seeing is a common attitude against snapd, it's an attitude I also hold, and it's one people will be willing to talk about in #tech-general if you want that discussion, but it is absolutely your right to not be interested in such arguments and use snapd anyway.
@kindred schooner
if you do paru search_term
i.e paru discord or something
it should show u a list of packages from different repos, as seen by the first section before the /, as seen below
then you write a number, for example 1 to then install the package
usually if the package if not form aur, it just installs it
if its from the aur, it will most likely show u a diff (the aur install script) which you can check for malware and/or spyware
if it does show you a diff you just press q once to exit the diff viewing thing and go ahead with installatino
seems weird that we are discussing someone's behaviour in a support ticket.
there are better ways to go about this
which is my point exactly, but right as we get to the end of having that short conversation, someone decided to come in and try and add to the disruption
go back to the /etc/paru.conf right
and uncomment BottomUp
so it looks like
#AurOnly
BottomUp
#RemoveMake
etc etc
that will make it so that
the results after you enter paru package
will be
3
2
1
instead of
1
2
3
which, the bottom one makes it hard to see
do i q? out
yea here u can just press q
what do u see rn
yeah we will get to that one moment
do
sudo vim /etc/paru.conf
or replace vim with whatever text editor you use
and remove the # before BottomUp
x to remove on the cursor btw
yeah did that
and :wq
wait do i enter after wq?
i get this
it didn't work i dont think
okay :wq! enter
ahh
no
just 1?
just whatever one you want really
id go with the teams on th ecommunity repo
oh mb
no
thats teamspeak
if you look under the package it gives a brief description of what it is
go with 1
kk
so 1 enter
it should take u to see the diff which you can just press q out of
then enter and install it
