the thing is that i feel like i reached w8 difficulty from the original game in 1-

about the rainbow star, i realized that the most shown color seems to be random every time. might have to do with how much time has passed since you enter the area, and could be the same rainbow effect as starman mario/luigi
Speaking about that, there's a sunshine model on NSMBHD, but it's meant to replace Star Coins, I dunno if it's compatible with the boss keys
idk but since they're both static models, it could work

there's a problem with Nitro WAV itself tho. sometimes, when the same music starts playing twice, in the original game it simply continues the music, but with Nitro WAV songs, it restarts the music, which can be pretty weird
for example when you go from a view to another, with the same music, using a warp controller (havent tested with entrances yet)
or when the bowser jr fight starts, and that the music of the view is already set to "15 bowser jr"

i cant pin messages (even in my own post) so i write "future reference" to find them easily with the search feature
i have about 15 more songs to add, and estimating that they are in average about 7mb each, we get 105mb more ☠️ 😭 (nwav i mean)
i think some levels will have exclusive songs

for example
and a bunch of songs will probably only get used in 2 or 3 levels on average
I noticed you're gonna use the "Dire Dire Docks" theme for Underwater levels, are you going to use the sseq that Asprök made? Because I'm using it in my hack but I can use another song if you want
at first i thought about this one, but im still uncertain about using this one or the one made by The Noble Demon (which i'll convert into nwav)

Using 4 palettes isn't always the best choice, since sometimes it happened to me that using 4 palettes just made the tileset quality worse
i think i'll use 4 palettes tho because i wanna have more than 2 colors of different stuff, and also have darker variations for the rain level(s)
im afraid that the tileset looks way too hand-drawn, and that it wont match the aesthetic of the rest of the hack
also for now, it doesnt make sense what are the tiles for, but later it will. thats because im optimizing them so it takes as little space as possible in the graphics map
Seems fine to me, maybe you could try adding a few more pixels with different color variations so it doesn't look too retro

anyone has an idea of how to fix the meromero's custom signboards code hack in the new template? (note: its supposed to be a blue pipe)
I'm not an expert on that, but:
1.- Are you sure it's converted properly
2.- MeroMero made a specific editor for that, what if a new editor should be created? Since it's adapted to NCPatcher, maybe it's some compatibility shit or something, idk
- not sure but it should be. i dont get errors and the hooks have been changed. but converting it to the new template could possibly be the problem

That code hack is written like a fart in a jar, the easiest way imo is to make an actor which loads a pipe model and use that, I plan on making an actor just for loading models at some point

not using the first 2 rows because of the tile randomization and im not sure what slot to use

A useful tip I can give is that you don't have to duplicate a bunch of objects in map16 as you could duplicate them in the object editor

i thought about making a level that is very similar to the "new donk city festival" (with jump up super star) in my hack, using the song with nwav. but i might have to scrap it, or at least use a cover in the sseq format because:
- there's a bug with the audio looping every time you change views/areas even with the same music
- the music file (nwav) might take too much space on the rom
though i can get around the second problem by using the method i described earlier

and now its 145MB

Tho, I have a few suggestions:
- Try to reduce the amount of coins, there are too many imo
- When placing many coins and there are coin sprites, try to make them all coin sprites, since they have different animations than the jyotyu coins
- I saw a block in front of a layer tileset, what if players break it with a mega mushroom?

- alright, its just that i sometimes avoid using them too much because they dont have the same z-layer (when they're in front of enemies for example), and because if you place too much, the game can lag
- i always forget about the mega mushroom lol. i think i'll still leave the block here tho

i took a star texture from nsmbwii, removed the outline, then set the brightness to 0, then copy-pasted it and rotated it, 3 times, and on the layer that i did this (because i did this for its own layer) i set the opacity to 128 (max value is 255, so its the equivalent of 50%)

the tileset has a few issues/downgrades compared to the original:
- the 4x1 slopes have been removed because they were taking up a lot of tiles
- the "inner" tiles of the ground dont connect properly (they mostly did in the original one) ✅
- the colors are less vivid ✅
so i guess i'll work on that tomorrow or smth
idk if its a good idea at all, but it might be a good thing to try to redraw, or at least modify, the "inner ground" texture, so each tile can connect to each other
or i'll just reuse the old ones because they seem to connect pretty well (its the same ones, just placed differently

the rest was easy because i simply reused the pattern of an old pdn file (paint.net file) of the previous version of the tileset (both the color and pattern

when i finished placing what i needed in the tileset, i felt like it was missing one decorative piece, so i searched for "mario grassland tileset" to get some inspiration, and some images had hills, so i decided to add them
yes
i took 4 of the bush tiles (16x16 tiles) and copy-pasted them, then applied blur on them. after that, i also made the shape of the hill, separately, with the "shapes" (i used a circle and a rectangle. then, i applied a "Bevel" effect on the new shape (the effect had an option to only keep the bevel, so i chose that) and did the same again on another layer, but with another angle. then i manually added eyes
oh and i "cut" the bush texture to give it the shape of the hill

oh also, idk if i said it already, but i'll rename World 7 from "Near-space Clouds" to "Near-space Ruins", because there will be sky ruins
i just realized that there's a small tiling error in the second screenshot

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but you won't find any hack here that adds world 9, that's really difficlt to do and requieres a lot of coding knowldedfe, only a few people have tried it and the ones who did ended up giving up
Illy's hack could potentially have a sorta-world 9, but it would be at the end of world 8. The closest thing you can get to world 9 is to modify the blue toad house level, and make it so you can go to 9 different "levels" which are unused areas
idk why i said 9 levels specifically but whatever
I kinda wanna steal permanently borrow some of the rail textures from Newerds for my underground mine tileset, though not sure if its a good idea

the bonus room in 1-1 feels like a literal rectangle, i wanna add more structuring
1-2 feels kinda unfocused in terms of gimmicks: there are grounded piranha plants with some random pipe piranha plants here and there. i think i'll remake the level and only keep pipe piranha plants except for the secret exit passage (here, they are combined with seesaws)

Got 2 ideas for the final boss if there's no way to make a custom one with code:
- The battle happens on a platform going up, with lava rising, obstacles. and on top there's the switch to kill bowser, bowser jr, and save princess peach
- Same battle as the vanilla game except that the switch, instead of saving peach, sends you to another view where you gotta escape a volcano with raising lava, and at the top you free princess peach
Might be good to replace peach with something else tho, having peach being stolen is kinda generic. maybe replacing it with a rainbow star or smth
