but sometimes it also looks ugly when done wrong or with some specific kinds of patterns or color combinations

there's also palette 16 and 256 which as their name imply allow for 16 and 256 colors with a palette, which are nice if you want something that looks clean

i know some formats do not limit you to 256 colors and allow for over 1k in some cases

for the ~~formats 🇫🇷 ~~ dimensions it again depends on your needs. for simple stuff, 16x16 or 32x32 is usually nice. for worldmap models or textures of the whole model (eg. enemy), 32x32 or 64x64 (and in some cases 128x128) are better
