something that can help to reuse tileset tiles in a background is to reduce the amount of colors and also use a different hue or lightness

or also make them lower resolution so that you can see the depth

for the second time, in nsmb-styled tilesets, the grass sticks out a bit on the sides, and the edge is 1-2 pixels away from the edge (except in some cases)

also it kinda feels weird how the side shading seems to get applied to both the edge and the grass

real hardware doesnt ''matter'' subjectively to some people either cause they would think most people would play it in emulator (due to it being a very old console for a very old game that most people to this day dont own) or cause they're just simply modding for fun, not for actually much gameplay

if we're saying objectively tho then yes it matters, and a lot, you're literally modding a game which you most likely want to have it be playable on it's home console as a goal when modding it, if you werent aiming to make it playable on it's home console you'd be much better off just making your own game at that point
