in my hack, you're supposed to rescue the different Rainbow Stars. except that until now i had no idea of how to do it
but now i know. i could replace the keys with the rainbow stars. and also change the swav so it makes a "shining" sound instead of the key sound

Early builds of new++ that use it are so broken
probably due to a code hack, which is either the one that allows boss music to play, or the one that makes it so bg animations arent dependent on the tileset slot

no its the new one, and i noticed it with 1-Castle, so its very recently that i noticed

so thats why i made it so the player enters inside the castle first then enters the boss door (in the old hack)

I only knowed this because of the animated tiles code hack
I came to this conclusion because when I was a newbie, I made a custom Castle tileset for my hack, and when I tested it in game, some objects were showing glitchy lava and conveyor animations, no matter the map16 position, and I also tried making a Tileset with functional conveyor belts by placing them in the exact same place than in the original Tileset and they weren't working (same for the boss doors)
Recently I saw some Tileset rips with functional doors and conveyor belts and I thought "What if it's not because of the map16 but the graphics position"
is the door dependent on the graphics position too?
After some testing, I can confirm it, you can place doors and conveyor belts wherever you want in the map16, but make sure they're in the same position in the graphics tab

so this means that, if you dont do that, you'll get an animationless door?
oh that would be cool for beta-styled doors
Additionaly, I must add that when you replace the castle tileset, the lava, conveyor and torch animations will be affected by it, since their animations use the same palette than the tileset

there's no torch animation tho
Oh another note, maybe some of you already know this, but slot 32 (Duplicate of the castle tileset) doesn't have any loaded textures or randomization, so you can import a custom tileset there and you won't have to worry about animated textures

Game looks good so far, there are things you could improve here and there but I think the most important thing to improve would be the graphics
some tilesets or bgs look imo too noisy

oh and try to make some levels have some kind of reference to the sakura theme, it's gonna be a bit weird if the hack is called sakura smb but only the first world is about sakura

I'vd shown some tilesets to a bunch of pixel artists and they said that it's possible but pretty hard
with how the palettes and tiles for tilesets and bgs are layed out im under the impression most were drawn in some way as opposed to 3d

I know that in every other nsmb community they simply render it after modelling the tileset
and since pixel artists also said that it's gonna be hard but easier when done by rendering, it lead me to believe it has to be done using this method.
I think it's easier. I've managed to make one, I could never imagine drawing one from scratch.

If i would make this, it would be like a 2nd custom item (the 1st and the core one is the shuriken) and it would be used to break hard blocks with the head or kill some enemies if they fall on your head, like the mario maker spike shell
It would be like an item, it would not play custom songs
Only the level song, like the other itens
Instead of the mega mushroom fanfare
And you would only loose the item if you die/take damage from some enemy
might as well make a power up from scratch

One item that i wanted to add in my mod is the ice flower tbh
the ice flower cant be stored into the inventory tho

pretty cool! tho i have a few recommendations to make:
- at 0:48, the jump seems to be very precise. might be good to make it a bit easier
- at 1:17, in the settings of the camera scroll stop, set them to "Top Limit" instead of "Bottom Limit"
- I think it would be good to use a few more snow spikes. Also try placing them on top of the scale lifts sometimes as well, it could make it more interesting (make sure they are above the whole sprite, not only the platform on which it stands on. otherwise they might fall down when loaded)
- lower the flagpole and the ground of the flagpole at the end, and maybe place the last scale lift a bit higher
- sometimes, trees come from the void, which can make the player think that its safe to fall, but its not. might be better to remove the trees in this case
- the tightrope gets introduced somewhat randomly, near the end of the level. i would suggest using the scale lifts there instead (maybe in conjunction with the snow spikes), and leave the tightrope mechanic for later. i think the tightrope+falling snow combo could make a great and challenging level
(some are just small fixes, some are harder to "fix" and involve some changes in the level design)

at first my recommendation were only the precise jump, the scroll stop settings, and lowering the flagpole lol

late but here are some of my thoughts
-seems like youre introduced to a lot of things very fast
-relatedly, some of the snow spikes seem rather difficult to react to
-tightrope wasnt really used in any sort of interesting way (i forgot it was there till i saw the sliding bug)
-also, this might be just my preference but i think its better to not have scenery placed in pits since it could be interpreted as ground being down there
also, slippery is misspelled

I wanted to make completely new bosses for my hack, i mean:
W1: shuriken Bro boss, how it works?:
You need to give 6 hits to kill it, it will throw shurikens towards you, and you need to dodge it, and after every hit it will enter in the shell and will slide, when it slides you need to dodge it, and it will be all battle like this untill finishing it.
W2: big snow spike, how it works?:
It will throw snow balls at you, you need to pick those snow balls and throw at it, it will falls on the floor and you need to ground pound it, you will do it 3 times until you finish it.
W3: king thwomp, how it works?:
It will always be on top of the level, and if he pass in your direction it will fall, and it will break the blocks, it sometimes will spawn some smaller thwomps above you, and you need to dodge it, you will do it until you finish the boss.
W5: top maniac, how it works?
Well, it will be very similar to mario galaxy, dont have much diferences
