The Ki-87 is okay as far as an army fighter that is made for energy fights and turns, but if you really want the proper Japanese air tree experience I'd have to recommend the A6M5 Ko or A7M1 as they are the peak of turnfighting with the A7M1 also being quite deadly in an energy fight as well.
