heat in particular is especially dangerous in smartphones and tablets. on a pc, you can slap a giant metal block with a couple of fans or a full custom water cooling loop to keep the temperature down. in a smartphone or a tablet, you don't have the space for either solution. and if the components are allowed to get too hot, they can melt, completely damaging them.
and lowering textures in this game can give people an unfair competitive advantage, so that's not really an option

@peak swift PUBG mobile settings work by putting your CPU, GPU and memory into brackets based on performance. I think it does a web based lookup based on your spec when the game starts which then determines which options will be available to you. Only the highest brackets get HDR/Extreme, next highest gets HDR/Ultra etc down to the bare minimum which gets Balanced/Medium and a warning to adjust the framerate if it lags.

the only emulator option that makes a lot of difference on a low-spec PC is the renderer. DirectX+ seems to be a bit faster but has more glitches, OpenGL+ uses more CPU but has no glitches.

since it first came out in May - but then, the game is doing more. More skins, more weapons, more maps etc.

you can't overclock the i5-6400, unfortunately. unless it's an i5-6400k. even if it's a k, you will need a z series motherboard to be able to overclock.
well... water cooling is going to give you the best performance when overclocking, but you don't have to have a water cooler to overclock. it largely depends on how aggressive you are with the overclocking
case in point, the ryzen stock coolers are actually capable of keeping temps reasonable with some mild overclocking.

I guess it helps that I live in a cold country though.

idle temp is a little high, about 32c but under load in the hottest summer? 75c highest I ever seen it
the ambient temp in my office ranges from 18c most of the year round to 28c if we get a freak heatwave
last year the UK had the worst heatwave in 20 years and my PC was fine π
I'm sure if I got a case with better airflow the idle temps would be lower. I have an Inwin 901 and the air intake on the bottom is miserable even with a big fan pulling in air.

something designed to reduce heat or extend battery life?
either way, turn anything like that off, check your power plan and make sure your cooling policy is set to active and your CPU is set to hit 100% under load
then try something like the benchmark feature in CPU-Z and watch the clocks
single core benchmark should clock higher than the multi core benchmark
(assuming turbo boost is working as it should)

something interesting - I had to reboot my laptop (I usually hibernate it) to get my power settings to "stick" - it was locked on full clocks. After rebooting I selected the "balanced" power plan, and set the system tray power slider to "better performance" which seems to work as it should. If I set the slider to "best performance" my laptop clocks go to full and stay there all the time.
with the correct settings though I can see my laptop reaching 3.1ghz for a four thread load and 3.25ghz for a single thread load. My benchmark scores were 374 for single thread and 1373.5 for multi thread (that's with an i5 7300HQ) and using CPU-Z's benchmark feature.

By that solution of clicking the cores to 2.5ghz(they were reaching there after setting them to there) the frame rate was hitting 60 and was low as 52 and whenever stuttering happened, it last for a very short time
