We have a selected few language channels in order to offer members a place to converse in their own language. The current number of these channels is 21. In smaller servers, it is normal that such channels are publicly available to everyone. Considering the size of this server, as well as the average age group of our audience, it would be troublesome to keep the channels accessible to everyone. That is why we are enforcing a self-assignable role system as a means to restrict the channels to mostly only people who need access to them. This will in turn prevent the spam and trolling that otherwise would have been the case if this restriction was not intact. If members were allowed to remove their language roles as they please, this restriction would have been pointless.

I hope this makes more sense to you now. Feel free to ask should something still be unclear.

Regarding role colors, it's difficult to please everyone with a single color palette, especially with the limited spectrum we have available.
Things we have to keep in mind when deciding the colors of the roles is it must be clearly visible on both Light and Dark theme. Many different types of displays and monitors display colors differently, so very dark/light colors become off limits with the Discord themes in mind (reducing our color choices by nearly 50%). With that remaining 50% of the spectrum, we have to choose 12 colors that can be easily distinguished from each other, while still holding some sort of theme and structure that fits the server.

If you guys want to suggest a color change, you should try creating a color palette yourself consisting of at least 12 roles, and we could take a look at it.

The options you have in this regard for our server are either to keep private messages enabled by default and block disturbing people as they appear, or to keep private messages disabled by default and encourage readers of #clans to mention you in the server for further information. For the latter, you can contact interested members privately if there is a mutual agreement on this. Being allowed to share invite links in #clans will not further avoid that one gets contacted with more disturbing content. Quite the contrary.
