It is independent of the regular battle royale mode in the game, and it features an entirely different lobby. The players can enter the lobby by touching the metro tunnel entrance in the main menu, @gray prawn. You have to collect loot and reach the return points to take these items back. You will be able to exchange the items for metro cash, which in turn, can be used to redeem rewards of your choice. If you fail to survive and are unable to reach the exit points, the items that are held by you will be lost. I'd suggest using the lock box for any purple or red items so enemies can't steal those.

His M24 might be a Refined version of the weapon, and may be using 7.62mm that deals extra damage, @umbral canyon. There are various factors that may cause this, and there are chances where you could lose your equipments. The only thing you will not lose are the loot stored in your lock box.
