Seems there's a bug with kill recording. Example today, team-mate gets a knock with a VSS and I finish the downed player with an S1897. My team-mate gets the kill but it is counted as a shotgun kill for him (in the RP challenges) when he hasn't picked one up all game. I wondered if this kind of thing was screwing up the Weapon Master achievement for people.
