here's a more detailed answer on defragmentation: old school hard disk drives work by spinning a bunch of magnetic discs around really fast, and having a mechanical arm with a magnetic read/write head moving back and forth along the radius of the discs. this head can only read/write data that passes directly below it, and is the slowest moving part of the hdd. initially, all of the data you write will be very closely packed together, each file being one large, continuous piece. this means that when the head tries to read the file, it doesn't need to move much. over time, as you delete old files(or expand them beyond their original size), new files start to get broken into multiple pieces(or fragments). this means that when you try to read those fragmented files, the arm needs to move all over the discs to get all of the pieces(remember, the arm is the slowest moving part). what defragmentation does is take all of these fragments and rearrange them so that files are once again in single, continuous pieces.
solid state drives don't have any (slow) moving parts. this means that fragmented data doesn't negatively impact access times. instead, ssds have a different problem: you can only write a limited number of times to each cell. after you exceed that limit, the cell dies(so to speak). to combat this issue, ssds purposely fragment data, so that no one cell is written to significantly more often than any other. trying to defragment them will only use up precious write cycles unnecessarily.

CPU: Google the exact name of your cpu <like i5 8600k> and go to the first link most likely ark.intel and check how many cores you have
Then set it to that setting
DPI: dependent on your resolution in this case for 1366x768 use 240
API: some people get different performance with different settings like some get better performance with open gl and some with direct x
Also turn on "Prioritize Dedicated GPU" if you have a dedicated gpu like an Nvidia or AMD
Turn it off if you only have an igpu or integrated gpu

@zinc fog I remember a bug where certain onscreen elements with a yellow colour turned blue but that was quite a few versions back, and only on certain hardware

And was still suffering severe performance drops
Turning them of would give you a lower framerate but the frametime is quite stable

no effect on FPS but more lag
till the cache is fully created and then after that no lag
the stutters occur when the shader is compiled, but after that once compiled it should be quicker to load the cached version

For example turning it off would allow you to hit a specific maximum framerate lets say 60
But the game can barely hold that framerate as it is more depended on the cached ones as it drops to as low as 20 fps in certain situation
but if we were to turn it off then the max framerate is lets take 40
It would be able to hold it and get a minimum framerate of 35 which is more preferable to many other people

@odd escarp it certainly seems that TCGB doesn't use its own built in shader cache when running in OpenGL+ mode. Whether or not it uses a system level or driver level cache however is unknown
either way, for me, there is no difference in performance with or without the shader cache

@odd escarp it doesn't seem to in OpenGL. However if you monitor the files the emulator opens using Resource Monitor it opens both the Nvidia cache and the local shader cache in DirectX+ mode. I'm a pc player. i prefer tpp. the thing is, you shouldn't approach this game as a "tactical" shooter. the only way it's similar is that you're in an arena with guns and you have to shoot others.

so I got the Corsairs and they sound better but they feel too big on my head plus they get a bit sweaty
